Break-ups: Hey Mercedes (2000-2005)

Vagrant Records band Hey Mercedes has broken up. The band's statement:

After 4+ years and 367 shows, Hey Mercedes will be saying goodbye in 2005. This is a mutual and amicable decision and we feel that at this moment, it is the correct one. We will be doing one farewell show in Chicago in April/May and we will be releasing one last EP on Grand Theft Autumn Records at that time. We'll keep this website running and frequently update it with cool audio & video downloads and of course, news on upcoming events. Thank you, everybody, for your love and support over the years. Please comment on the message board and send us email. We'll try and respond to everything individually or on The Wire.

Thank you again. It's been a blast.

The band's most recent release was 2003's Loses Control; they also contributed to Vagrant's most recent sampler, Another Year On The Streets Vol. 3, in 2004.

Such crap. This band's best days were far ahead of them, as shown by "Roulette Systems," the song on the Vagrant comp. It's easily one of their best songs ever. You guys will all be missed. Thanks for the good times. -Scott

I completely disagree with this statement. I feel like the band was getting worse since Mark Dawursk was kicked out of the band. He gave the band a slightly harder edge. It may just be that I felt like he was kicked out unjustly, but I just can't listen to Loses Control and enjoy it like I would like to. Plus, Mark liked Coalesce which puts him ahead in my book. I'm not surprised by this breakup, though.

Same here... one of the most natural players I've ever seen live. I remember seeing him do double duty for the Saves the Day / Hey mercedes tour a while back. Amazing stuff.

sonds like you don't know how to do it. Here goes: Mix all your ingredients in a bowl prior to cooking - eggs, milk, cream of broccoli soup place 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil in a pan and turn the temp to medium - 5 add your mixture to the pan. don't add too much mixture, about 3/4 cup leave it alone until the bottom is cooked Here's the important part: when the bottom is cooked, lift an edge of the omelette and tilt the pan so the excess liquid on top gets to the bottom. Keep doing this until all liquid has been dispersed to the bottom and the omelette is fully cooked. Now add you meat or cheese or vegetables in the middle and carefully fold your omelette in half. Voila! a beautiful omelette. Now you can officially use the best pick up line - "Darling I make a mean omelette"

So yesterday I order from Stuffy's and they bring me a steak and cheese instead of the Stuffy's Star (Ham, Genoa, Cappacola, Proscuittini). I call them to complain (as all steak and cheeses south of Maryland suck) and request my proper lunch. They tell me to just ask for the manager with my next order and I'll get a sandwich for free. Should I have gotten this in writing, or taken their word?

Its a local chain in Richmond, although these ingredients make up your basic "Italian" at any sandwich shop. Speaking of which Scott, I'll tell you the place to try in Ohio. It originated in Cincy, and we have one in Richmond, so I'd think Cleveland would have one. The place is called "Penn Station East Coast subs". I tell ya, the shit is like crack. Addictive!

With any sub, its all about bread. They use "hard rolls". Anyone from Jersey knows hard rolls are the best sub rolls, period. Plus they have awesome lemonade, and fresh cut fries. Go there and get the Italian, you WILL NOT be dissappointed.

Hopefully it's a small place and they remember. You should have at least gotten some names to throw around and when you go back, you should just explain the situation clearly and when it happened, etc. Also do it very soon. In fact, why not do it today? I think that today is a FINE FINE FINE day for a free sandwich.

There's nothing like a good sarnie and free refills after a sweaty show. However, the other day I went into get my usual veggie delight and the fat shit (oh sorry, "sandwich artist") told me he was going to do me a steak and cheese. I said no, veggie delight because I'm a cheap bastard and he started showing all the deals and stuff, convinced I would love this sandwich and I could afford it. In the end I had to raise my voice god damn. Just thought I'd contribute that little story.

Actually dude, it's not that bad, they're called fightstar, it sounds a bit like poppiest deftones with alot of american alt-rock. I heard some clips and it's not that nu-screamo either which totally suprised me, and it wasn't even pop punk. And that kid charlie has a crapload of cash, he payed for the band to get on the taking back sunday tour for fucks sake!!!

You guys will be missed dearly. You are one of the best bands ever! You truly inspired me in so many ways. Hopefully you will all move on and play in other bands. I will definetly be at the last show in Chicago. It would be a like a dream come true if you had your old guitar Mark Dawurski come up and play on a couple songs! i doubt braid will get back together. broach is really busy with the firebird band, they still have to tour for the new album, and then he's working on another album for them.. and he's also got a record label to attend to. but bob damon and todd? new band together in about a week or two.
