The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie post new videos

The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie have both posted new videos this past week. Both come from 2003 releases which share vocalist Ben Gibbard.

The first video "We Will Become Sihouettes" comes from Give Up, and was directed by Jared Hess who was also responsible for Napoleon Dynamite. It can be seen in Quicktime format: High Res and Low Res. The band will also be releasing a single with remixes and other tracks. You can see some more information about it here.

The second video, "Title and Registration" comes from DCFC's Transatlanticism and can be seen in a variety of formats: Windows Media 56k, Windows Media 100k, Windows Media 300k, Windows Media 450k, Quicktime 56k, Quicktime 100k, Quicktime 300k and Quicktime 450k

Well, to protest long-distance calls, I'll argue here. Yes, he is a good songwriter, obviously ahead of miles of the garbage of "our time," but to call him one of the greatest is a bit of a stretch. While he has good concepts of melody and song construction, and writes decent lyrics, his music certainly isn't anything new, and really not that refreshing--amounting mostly to pop music with more personal lyrics--which, may i add, rely way to heavily on puns and "ironic" observation (see that glove compartment song) and generally border on vomit-worthy cheesewhiz (see most postal service songs). Yes, I'm ready for the "well lets hear your band's songs" comments, but that's not what's at stake here--I'm a critic (unofficially), not an artist. I just feel like so many people in the "indie" scene (cough, bright eyes, cough) are being glorified as the banners of our generation.

not at any of the clubs, but... we were flyering a uva building last night and heard a rock band practicing in an empty classroom (i think that is punk) but dude was wearing a bouncing souls shirt and they said they are playing a party on Virginia Ave - 1536 or something like that....just go up 14th st from the bars and make a left on Virginia and listen for noise around 1030.... i think they probably suck but said they play punk/metal and I am sure you can just show up and get some free beers....if we were not in Baltimore tonight, I probably would have checked it out....

I can see why people wouldn't like it, but personally I enjoyed it. Some parts were funny as hell. Not sure what all the fuss is about, if its not your thing, dont watch it. I'd rather watch something like Napolean than anything like "the aviator" or something.

napoleon dynamite is a very specific type of humor. if you're not a fan already, you probably won't get it. also, i think there's a huge number of people who don't like it just because a lot of people do. like with anchorman, funniest movie of the last few years but some hate it and some don't get it. oh, and the direction in the aviator was pretty awful, scorsese is over.

Absolutely agreed on Anchorman. Funniest fucking movie in a long time. I think it shows the side of Will Ferrel I was dying to see for so long--especially in the deleted scenes. It's half absurdist, half amazing character acting, and half Steve Carell is a fucking genius. And that amounts to 1.5 movie, which makes it fucking great. -duped

So what if you don't really like the band. That video even without sound is amazing! I'm so sick of watching 'hip' youngsters dressed in black jumping and making faces at the camera in music videos. These guys #1 were NOT trying to look cool #2. Had a pretty freaking good song. #3. Had a 'story' to their video #4. Weren't dressed in black. (In fact, they had white on). How great is that. PUSH FOR CHANGE. Great video guys.

the director/writer from napoelon dynamite is the biggest fuckin hack around and wrote one of the poorest successful scripts ive witnessed. but every single retarded teenager in ameirca loved that film, absolutely horrible. everyone sucks.

napoleon certainly is a very polarizing movie. I would certainly like to conduct a study on the personality traits of people that do and don't like the movie. Judging from the people that I know that don't like it, it seems the more selfish and self-conscious people hate it the most. That's just my observation though. And I bet that the family in the video listens to a lot of Polyphonic Spree.
