AMP, Lies and Videotape

AMP has announced their upcoming music video compilation titled Video for the Ages. The compilation, due out March 29th will include tracks from Against Me!, Agnostic Front, the Briefs, the Bronx, Comunique, Converge, Every Time I Die, the Explosion, Heaven Shall Burn, Misery Signals, the Network, Onelinedrawing, Roses Are Red, Shadows Fall, the Start, Unearth, and A Wilhelm Scream.

The magazine has also posted their latest issue online, which includes features on Comeback Kid, Hopesfall, Lamb Of God and Catch 22.

It's taken from the DVD. It's the only live video on the comp. It is, after all, Against Me! though...

I saw an ad for this. It's only like $7 or so. I will pick it up for sure. I don't like some of those bands, but for that cheap, it's worth having the ones I do like.

It's funny how labels like Hopeless put the cine-beer comps out that are half as good as these, and cost three times as much, and AMP is somehow sexually forcing itself on the punk comunity. Dude, if you don't like it, don't buy it. At least it will be there for people like me that do want it.

Does anyone know the story behind AMP? Who started it, who's financing it, distributing it, etc? Any info would be wonderful. It has good distribution for such a "low-quality" publication. Obviously there's some major advertising contributions, since it only costs 2 bucks an issue.

It's done by the guys that did Hit List. I'm assuming by low quality you mean the newsprint insides, not the actuall content, as the content seems to be better than most magazines in the junderground genre. they give bands a lot of space top talk about things, and cover a good variety. I like it a lot.

The review section is terrible. And since the issues are bimonthly, the news is always old. Other than that, it's a good magazine.

The layout is shit and so is most of the content. The only good parts are when Norb or other "celebrity" types do columns. The interviews are terrible, the articles suck and the reviews as previously mentioned aren't so hot. It's a cut rate AP magazine...which isn't that hot either.

Your insane. AMP is a great magazine. If you are the type that would only like a "punk" magazine when a "celebrity" makes a guest appearance, AMP probably wouldn't be the magazine for you to begin with. That doesn't make it a bad magazine though. Maybe you should start your own magazine and show the world how it should be done.

I thought only the subscription version was bi-monthly. There's a free one that's all over my college campus that I'm pretty sure is every month (course it lacks some of the big interviews, and CD's that come with the subscription version). But it is a horrid magazine. I used to read it a lot (still do on occasion), but the more I read the more I noticed their interviews were terrible. I've interviewed a pretty good sized amount of bands and I would never ask such terrible questions. In addition there seems to be no set format for interviews so some start with a little story while others just talk about how much the person loves the band. Two stand out as the all time most crap-tastic: 1) Think it was a D4 interview where the band snuck out half way through the interview (it was like half a page long, why even print that?). 2) Pretty sure it was Shadows Fall (maybe another metal band), but the interview started right in the middle of whoever was being interviewed telling a story (I don't even remember who was interviewed because they never said who it was). Over all, for a free magazine it's alright, but for $2 you can lick my ass. -Dante P.S. Still I don't think AMP is the devil working to help sell out punk, just not a great mag.

The worst was the interview wit Kerry King. I wish I hadn't thrown the magazine away but it was only a few questions long and the dude was so far up King's ass he was coming out of his mouth.

I wish these were all live videos. I would value high quality live videos from Converge, Against Me!, The Explosion, and a few of the others a lot more than I would music videos.

ehhh... I see AMP in hot topic and i occasionally buy it sometimes the cds are good sometimes not, but they do tend to have generally decent comps.

what bullshit. just one big advertisement. Well, actually, advertorial. put ads in our magazine, and we will write and article about you, and even put you on the issues comp. cd. Brilliant marketing, terrible for "thee olde punketh rocketh."
