Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus form Plus 44; Blink-182 future in further doubt

SignonSanDiego, the online adaptation of San Diego's Union-Tribune area newspaper, is reporting that Blink-182/Transplants drummer Travis Barker has formed a new project with Blink-182 vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus called Plus 44, who are currently recording and writing. The article, which focuses on Barker's soon-to-be premiered MTV reality show, "Meet The Barkers," adds this little tidbit at the end:

"Blink, as far as I'm concerned, is over," Barker said. "I have the Transplants going on. I have a project going on with Mark Hoppus. It's called Plus 44, and we're recording and writing as we speak. I just kind of see that as the past. It just ran its course, and now it's time for something new and fun."

here comes some shit talking - lookout Dudes - do you guys know the back story on the original drummer. It is so fucked up. Homeboy's wifey got pregnant and then either had a miscarriage or troubles or the kid was born sick. Can't remember, but it kept Scott (i think that was his name) from being able to go on tour. So rather than just get Barker and pay him nicely for filling in, they just kept him and kicked out Scott and tried to blame it on drugs/alcohol or some bullshit. Totally fucked this kid over and out of MILLIONS of dollars. Yeah - so that's that. I actually met them on the second warped tour when Scott was stil with the band and they were cool dudes - but money - money changes everything.

i read an interview with scott and they did drop him, and they did do it sketchily, but it had nothing to do with anything like that. they just weren't getting along. as for blink saying it was over drugs, they've never said ANYTHING on the matter, other than "it's personal."

I personally don't think it was Tom that was the cause for the poppiness. Mark's voice and delivery to me, seems to have mellowed and matured with age. Tom voice still has a hint of snottiness and brattiness (I have no clue if those are words, but I felt they went well with poppiness). Maybe they should just dump Travis and get back Scott and suck it up that he enjoys having a good time and doesn't drop over $200,000 for a Maybach. I mean let's look at Travis' endeavors post Aquabats. blink-182, Boxcar Racer, Transplants, cameo's in rap videos, Cribs episode, Cribs Whips Edition episode, reality show, marrying a Playmate(?). As for them keeping with the number name dealy... Wasn't Blink 182 just originally Blink? Then they found out the name had been taken, I think by some Irish electronic duo? More or less the same deal as to how Death From Above recently added 1979 to their name because they didn't want Death From Above the record label to sue them, or perhaps it was simply to avoid confusion. Regardless, in their case (DFA1979's) they should have just changed their name. It's long. Death From Above Nineteen Seventy Nine. Six words! i hear al ot of derek's influence. he played in a lot of bands here in detroit between the suicide machines and alkaline trio. in almost all of them he wasn't a founding member, came in and started writing a lot of the songs, and singing back ups, thus changing the bands sound. i know his songwriting in ak3 started right away, he wrote "all in black" which i thought sounded quite a bit different than most of the songs on the last ak3 record for example

The last good show I saw them play was the record release party for Dude Ranch in Lake Havasu, Arizona with 30 Foot Fall and 98 Mute. The show ruled, there were about 200 people there and blink played almost every song off of Cheshire and Dude Ranch, it was an awesome show and probably the last club show they have played, this was in the summer of 97.

Because I took the time to find the best tattoo artists in the world, I also saved my money over years so I could afford to get the most perfect custom art stained on to my skin. i so so so agree with you. actually, with all of you that diss plus 44! some of you are saying 'why cant we give them a chans?' well ill tell you why! - us true blink fans know that this is probably the end for blink forever (except maybe a reunuion) and we are fuckin upset about it okay? we've gotten used to seeing and hearing mark tom and travis all together the last 6 years (and with scott b4 that). and we dont particualaly want that 2 go away! infact, for some of us, blink has kept us alive (literally with adam's song). and we fckn anticipate thier new songs/albums/dvds as soon as we no theyre coming out! so, yeah, i guess we will give pluss 44 a chance in the end because its a part of blink and we want to try and convince ourselves theyre coming back okay? but you can see our point in making a point to hate them now. even tho 2 members of blink are in it

Well with Boxcar Racer you learned that Tom is excelly the one that can be kinda gay, he didn't involve Mark in it. Maybe Mark just want a side project now. Travis don't really care because he just want to play the drums. And he is one hell of a drummer! Also you don't hear anything about Tom in the news. He might be the one that is ruining blink182. I have nothing against Tom, I think he's really cool and all, but have a feeling this whole split is his fault. Think about it: He doesn't show up at all in Meet the Barkers, whereas Mark does. And, why would Mark and Tom basically just replace him and change the name of the band to cover it up?

On Flyswatter through Dude Ranch Tom totally sucked! He was good during Enema of the State until Take off Your Pants and Jacket. Now (only live) he completely sucks yet again! Mark has been a talented singer since the beginning. It's good that they dropped Scott or he left i'm not sure which, but he seemed to have only one drum riff and it was the same on evey single song, even the softer songs. I read somewhere that when Travis was a kid his mom made him learn to play the drums when he was 4. It was because they lived in a high crime area and his mom didn't want him getting into drugs... Good for her... Anyways when the three of them came together after Scott was gone they really became good. I only started to listen to them almost a year ago, but i've got almost all the albums (just not Flyswatter... that thing costs like $30!) I'm sad that they broke up, but I w
