Protest The Hero, after opening for Sum 41 on three Canadian dates early this month, will be heading into the studio to record the followup to 2003's Underground Operations-released A Calculated Use Of Sound EP.

I remember when I first heard of Half Hour of Power. My r friend was playing that song " Take the devil by the horns and fuck him in the ass" or something like that. All I could think of was damn this is some tight metal. So I went out and bought that shit for 5 smacks.............so I listen to the cd for like um a few more days and put it away under my bed somewhere and the next thing you know there on mtv and shit . Wierd.

actually, I'm from Toronto and that last statement is very much not true. Rich 905 kids maybe---but Circular Politics not so much. Sure, some of the other bands on Underground Operations may lack substance in their lyrics, but PTH is not one of those bands. If you have a look at their lyrics, they are actually very articulate and verse in meaning. Their vocab is outstanding and are not encouraging you to "raise your fist" or "fight back", but rather give you the info and let you make your own decision. I've said my piece.

If you ignore that fact that the kids in Protest The Hero steal all their lyrics from books i.e These Colours Don't Run = Noam Chomsky's 9-11 Reader word for word then yes they are good lyricists. Having a large vocabulary does not mean you can write good songs. The other bands on this label (save The Brat Attack and Closet Monster) write far better songs with far better lyrics. The singer/bassist/lyricist of Bombs Over Providence aids in the writing process for all the bands on that label because he is the man with the large vocabulary. Rody's voice sucks. P.S. All the kids in that band are very nice to me, I hope they don't know who i am!

the singer/bassist/lyricist from bombs helped pen a couple lines in a couple closet monster songs (most notably, the ones that are lacking in sloganeering and rampant rhetoric) as well as a tune with hostage life, who should be recognized as one of the exceptions to the UO-circular-politics-rule.

I'm fromt the 905 and I can't say I've heard much from this band, only the music video in which they go to Toronto and put on a series of impromptu concerts in which they play their metallic brand of punk with unabashedly political lyrics while handing out lyric sheets to bewildrered (and most likely annoyed) passerbys. Without any sense of humour this sort of overtly (and overly) political punk gets tiresome very quickly. Propagandhi can sign about genocide and U.S. imperialism all they want and it never gets old (to my ears), but I don't think Protest The Hero has the qualities, or the credibility, that my favourite Winnepeggers do.

I was in that video, or at least I was at one of the "concerts" that they played. It was alright. I wasn't bewildered. Best part of the taping was the homeless man who kept yelling, "Fuck you, play some real rock and roll. Play some fucking Rolling Stones!" They didnt' put it in the video.

As a fan of political punk, I personally don't see what's so special about Protest the Hero. Most people who like them seem to like them solely because they're local. Perhaps my perceptions of them have simply been ruined by the hoardes and hoardes of teenage girls who wear their shirts, but I just don't see how they're different from hundreds of other bands playing an identical style.

Sum 41 Rocked the Kitchener concert.. protest the hero was alright for never hearing them before. No Warning was also there and kicked ass. Sum 41 was amazing at the concert though

Protest the hero is the best live band ive ever seen.....they put on the craziest fuckin show ever...after their show i bought their cd and i LOVE it...im from Windsor and i wont get to see them too much but next chance i get im fuckin there...i love their political punk style and anyone who thinks they are garbage will regret it when the new album comes out

Protest The Hero is an amazing band! i was at the Sum concert and met Rody#4 (lead singer) and Arif (bassist) after their set and they are crazy nice guys. i think they have a huge future ahead of them.... and come on... opening for Sum is not exactly social suicide! PTH kicks! P.S I still love you Arif! ha ha ha ha ha
