"It's a pretty good read and there is a mention of Jello Biafra and his struggle to keep a Dead Kennedy's tune from being used in a Levi's commercial. Check the article out here. It's interesting, and I agree that it's always a little sad. One Punknews.org visitor pointed out that apparently, the new iMac commercials are using an Ataris song."It's always sad to see a much-loved song being used in a commercial. When a tune that was associated with a particular time or love affair gets linked instead to a car or a building society or an investment bank, a bit of the music dies with it."

"There's an interesting editorial over at the Guardian about the use of music to sell products...

The song used is the radio still sucks, but it was re-recorded for the advert, without swearing, or band names. It became kind of a hot topic on the ataris message board, so Kris Roe posted the following response, which I think is kind of cool...
I don't really think you get it but did you understand that the entire message of the commercial is telling you don't listen to the radio burn your own cd's instead and for your information they didn't ask me to change the lyrics I chose to so we wouldn't get sued by 311 and all the other shitty radio rock bands I mention in the song. I feel we stay really true to what we are and always will, I think you should listen to the lyrics on Propagandhi "Less talk more rock" or read a book by michael moore and you will learn the primus of using the mass media when given the chance in order to bite the hand that feeds. A few weeks ago there was a good read about this in New York Times Magazine called "For Rock Bands, Selling Out Isn't What It Used to Be..." Check it out here... http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/11/magazine/11SELLOUT.htm l?searchpv=site13 (You need to log in and stuff.. it's free.) I agree with kris...i saw them live on monday with lagwagon and the vandals (the bands I was there to see), and althought I wasn't there to see them, they were alright. The Vandals played an AMAZING set thou... OK, getting off topic. Yea, the message of 'the radio still sucks' is a good message to out.. check out the article. | Features

Yeah, the song they used in the iMac-ad is 'The Radio Still Sucks' (I think that's the title) from the Ataris. Bein' a Mac-head myself i thought it was kinda neat ( oh yeah, let the flaming commence), although I don't really like the Ataris. And they didn't beep the lyrics!!! (If you wanna view here's the url: http://www.apple.com/hardware/ads/itunesimac3.html) But on the whole I think the article makes a damn good point on the subject.
