Fat signs Strike Anywhere

Fat Wreck Chords has signed Strike Anywhere. The band will enter the studio this Winter to record their label debut and followup to both the recent To Live In Discontent and 2003's Exit English, both released through Jade Tree. The album is set for a tentative release in Spring 2006.

The band will also be on Warped Tour this Summer.

That makes sense. I mean, Jade Tree is one of my favorite labels, but obviously Fat has better distro, and hey, as long as SA are happy with the deal that they're getting, good for them.

i'm sorry, but this guy has the best point i've ever seen on punknews.org ever. propagandhi is singly the laziest band on fat, yet they deserve more than anyone to have a headlining spot on the fat tour. fuck all those other bands anyway.

This does not surprise me at all. They played the FAT Rock Against Bush showcase in NYC. They did a 7" for that Fat Club dealie a couple years back. I know certain people who work at Fat have been pushing for Mike to sign them for a good couple of years now. Now that shitty excuse for a b-sides record makes sense; they were finishing out their 3-record contract with Jade Tree.

Good - Fat has better distribution than Jade Tree anyhow. Plus, now they have a chance to be the musical guest on Conan O'Brien like NOFX! (BTW This isn't some kind of sarcastic backhanded bullshit sellout cry - I truly like SA, NOFX and Conan.)

I guess it makes sense given the work Strike Anywhere has done with Fat, but I really do wonder why it is that they decided to leave Jade Tree. I have heard stuff about JadeTree treating their bands really well...I guess it's not a big deal in the long run. Thank god it's not a major.

Uh, that tour took place already. Avail/Ann Beretta/Strike Anywhere, I believe it was in early 2000, but strike anywhere had only released the Chorus of One EP so it doesn't really count.

Ca$h? Think about it, distro is a joke. Look at the Bouncing Souls. They sweated it out for years doing things themselves and theyve never sounded better. The internet is enough distro for anyone. Hire some eager scenster for $5.50 an hour to throw orders and boxes and print shipping info. Distro, psh, what a joke in the day in age when someone can offer thousands of products for sale while running that same buisness out of their 20x20 apartment.

well, i actually like Jade Tree a lot, they did some really amazing hardcore bands like Trial by Fire and put out an Alklaine Trio/Hot Water Music album...so I am a little sad. I saw Strike Anywhere here in Tokyo about a month ago (im not japanese) and they seemed ok with Jade Tree. This band is amazing and whatever label theyre on, theyre still gonna be good. I just think Fat kinda sold out with their little "rock against bush" deal (i mean, fuck bush, but what the hell?) also, anti-flag signed to RCA, which is why i think that Fat Mike wanted someone to fill in...which is gay. O well. Change is a sound.

maybe fat mike just thinks SA are a good band and wanted to sign them. as he has done with numerous other bands. if i had a record label, i'd be wanting to sign strike anywhere, for the sole reason that i think they fucking rock.

jade tree is so much more of a solid label. but i guess this is the punk move for them, by punk of course i mean as close to a major as possible, which is what the ywere gunning for with the last lackluster lp. i love SA but that last record had one misssion in mind, to get them signed and mission not accomplished. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee. got to looooove the drake.

actually, jade tree is by far not nearly the label fat is. jade tree cant get records in stores, doesnt support their touring bands and doesnt even give record advances. for a band to survive you need some MONEY. jade tree is stingy and now they are beat. kudos to strike anywhere.

Actually, neither labels are good at getting records by their smaller bands into stores. I've yet to see albums by Paint It Black or Dillinger Four in any Canadian store, big or small. However, I only buy by mail-order so I don't really care. -Chinatown

actually jade tree will work with you, i have sat down with them and by and large they are the better and much cooler label, you could be a shitty band on fat like nmb or a great band on jade tree, liek strike anywhere before they started writing to be the next big thing, and failing.

Well, the HMV here in Sherbrooke sucks ass. I'll admit that they're pretty good indie-wise (I've seen albums by Joan-of-Arc, the Evens, and A Silver Mt. Zion on their shelves [though at 20$+, they're all overpriced]), but their Punk section leaves much to be desired. They only carry the usual suspects. I did see a lone copy of Strike Anywhere's To Live In Discontent the other day. It was priced 27,99$. I wonder if indie labels have some kind of policy on chain stores selling their products at prices that are blatantly way too high. -Chinatown

I don't think either label is further or closer to a major. Popularity does not necessarily equal major label practices.

Change is a Sound will remain to be one of the best punk/hardcore CD's of all time, but this band has fallen from being the next big thing to being another dud. I dont expect much from their next CD.
