AMP means American Music Press

AMP has posted their latest set of features online. Among the most recent feature are interviews with Throwdown, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Millencolin and Norma Jean as well as a retrospective piece on hardcore act Judge.

Although Chinatown is the worse person on here, i often can't flaw his music taste. In fact, besides his hating the Clash and loving NUFAN, i generally agree with him.

With the exception of the Mad Caddies and the Asian Man Records stuff, I generally don't listen to ska. What he meant, though, was that I love Dillinger Four, the Larry Arms, Tom Waits, Duvall, Fugazi, Ted Leo, and all of the other bands the people at the org have hard-ons for. -Chinatown

The "black metal" section in this magazine is ridiculous, the CD gets worse and worse with each issue, half of the interviews are more like press packages (see also, Alternative Press), but the columns are good, and it's still cheap (but not as much free stuff anymore). I love run-ons.

Well, there's the "interview pieces" that never actually have a Q and A format to them. Those bother me immensely because you buy a magazine because a cover has a, let's say, 7 Seconds, on the cover (as AMP did), then when you read your issue, it's just like "THEIR NEW ALBUM IS SO GREAT AND HARDCORE. THE BAND HAD THIS TO SAY ABOUT IT : etc etc etc". AP has done it lots of time, and they hype bands to such extremes (when the fanbase will just slam it and turn their backs on the band a year later [see, every year's "Best Of" issue - talk about trendhopping]). I know it's not your personal fault, Scott, that the magazine is so shitty at times. If it's an interview, do it Q and A, or in an honest format, at least, and leave the editoral BS for ads and press packets, or whatever. At least for that Weezer cover, they had both - a giant article (which was basically "Oh, Rivers! He's so crazy! New album plug 50x) and a Q and A part (which ended up being the same thing, though). But that's just me, and I think my subscription ran out anyway.

You know how in the AP history things, they're always severely embarrassed about the crap they put out in the past? That's the current [emo] incarnation of AP in a few years, only twice as bad. I understand that a for-profit magazine has to follow what's popular, to a certain extent, but drowning in the current trend's bodily fluids is going a little too far.

Someone should check the news editor position in AMP then... Again, not bashing anyone, and I doubt Aubin gets a huge fat paycheck, but the double standard does exist, am I wrong?

I'm not disagreeing with you, but it applies to Scott in a larger way, seeing as AP write his paycheck. I'm betting all Aubin gets is the recognition. I'm not really too bothered, but whatever.

It was a good review. I liked some of the things that were brought up and I liked all that he had to say, especially about Converge and why being a band is somewhat compromising.

Throwdown I understand. Dillinger Escape Plan I don't get. This is one of those bands that is really good at what they do. If you don't like "hard" music that's fine. If you do, shame on you. I can't see how somebody couldn't at least have some respect for how talented they are.

I get you. But still, at least give Miss Machine a chance. I could see how Calculating Infinity would be pretty alienating at first but with the new one they really made everything a little more palatable.. you should check it out.
