Brian: So there's this sticker on the front of the debut full-length from Bellingham, WA's Shook Ones. This little label on the jewel case of Sixteen reads "fans of KID DYNAMITE, JAWBREAKER, LIFETIME, and GORILLA BISCUITS...take note!" "Holy [expletive]!" you're probably saying. "Those are classics! This can't be anywhere near as good as them! And if so...no no no, I'm sure I've heard this before elsewhere. Either Pastepunk is distributing this or already covered it last week." To that I answer "yeah, probably." But because the melodic hardcore outfit's shit is so undeniably tight, here's some MP3s regardless; a full review shall come when I'm not feeling so lazy as to sedatively nod in agreement with press releases and need to make up excuses as to why I'm saving comparisons for later. Both are taken from Sixteen, out now on Endwell Records.

Hopefully Sixteen will be at my house this week! This will probably be one of the best records of the year. 1+ Reply

I'm not sure about the Jawbreaker comparison...but this sure does sound like Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. Me like!

Nice Pastepunk reference...those guys are pretty weak. Never any negative reviews, just glossy ones. 1+ Reply

aww well. it sounds soso. i rather put up Shorter Faster Louder or Jersey's Best Dancers, but heck. and oh snap, am i deaf or do i hear no Jawbreaker at all? i mean 'being influenced by' is something different than sounding like (which the label seems to point out). i would recommend The Backup Plan and Breathe In to the Kid Dynamite fans on here. i find them more enjoyable (and putting some more originality into it) than this second rate KD... 1+ Reply

Good stuff, but the vocals rip off Jay waaaaaaaaay too much. I'll prolly pick this up, but don'r try to take Jay's voice, you'll lose.

Hmm this is good but it doesn't really make me think of Jawbreaker, sounds to me a bit like None More Black. 1+ Reply

Well, it's true that's one hell of a sticker to live up to, and no, it doesn't live up to those bands, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Because it is. Some serious potential for even better things await this band if they put out more than just this album. These bands have a tendency to break up waaaaaaaaay too early for some reason.

I miss the D Street House already. This band is the best thing out of the northwest, easy. Well along with PSA anyway heh. 2+ Replies
