Takeover signs Bracket and Paperface

Takeover has announced the signing of long-running pop-punk act, Bracket. The band previously released a series of records on Fat Wreck Chords, including When All Else Fails in 2001.

The band has completed most of the work on their upcoming full length, titled Requiem and is expecting a release in November. You can check out some material from the record on their myspace page.

The label has also announced the signing of Paperface. The band describes itself as "Ben Folds Five with less sarcasm" and has some material available on their purevolume site.

On top of that, both Bracket and Dillinger Four were supposed to be recording new records, but Fat mentioned neither of those records in that news release about new records.

is there any proof of this anywhere? i don't particularly care what lable thy're on. if i had the money i'd pay for their recording my damn sef. i just wanna hear some new D4.

My logic is that Bracket was recording a new album, and supposedly D4 was too. But when Fat announced all the releases for this year they didn't mention Bracket or D4.

actually suburban home had get rad, and then takeover just decided to reissue it without permission... i'm pretty sure the only reason SH didn't raise a fuss over it is because no one was buying that record anyway

Crazy. Fat never really gave Bracket the push they deserved. Hopefully Takeover will do better. Looking forward to some new stuff though.

I don't know how long you've been following Fat, but that's a pretty dubious statement. It's been years since Bracket was a popular touring band, but when they were a full-time unit with a strong fanbase, they were treated with just as much support as any of the other early Fat stalwarts.

I've been a fan of Fat for a long time I'd guess since the mid 90's. Out of all the bands on Fat, it seemed that Bracket only came to town once. That was on one of the Fat Tours, I think with Consumed, Mad Caddies, and No Use. And after reading my statement again, you may be right. It just always seemed that Bracket was overlooked and in my opinion is way underrated. I want to make it clear though, that I have nothing against Fat...its just kind of surprising.

What about Bracket touring their asses off? I don't recall that happening too much. I've been listening to Bracket since mid 90's, and I really got into them after hearing Survival of the Fattest and buying their albums. But I can honestly say I don't think I ever once saw a Bracket show scheduled for the Tampa/St.Pete area. Maybe I'm wrong and I missed them once, but I doubt that could have slipped by me more than just that one time. So, I think it all goes back to how much of a push a band gives themselves.

If you want to run a successful record label, you have to put out records from bands that tour. Why would Fat release a Bracket album? The band hasnt toured since before the year 2000. Plus I am sure Brackets contract was up, so they just decided to go elsewhere. There is no need for Fat to release the new Bracket album, when a smaller label like Takeover can put it out and it will do just as good or bad. Fat Mike knows this too, and I am sure he wasnt begging Bracket to release this record.

makes sense, but I saw it more like "I don't like your band anymore so get the fuck out" I remember reading interviews with Mike where he was saying "Its not about making money or selling records, Its about having close relationships with the bands." Bracket was one of his examples. Fat Mike has been known to get rid of bands because he doesn't like their new album also (Consumed) so that might be the case with Bracket. I guess I just like to see bands stay on a nice label like Fat, but I suppose Takeover is a good home for Bracket. I just wonder why bands like Sick Of It All or Snuff would leave a big label for a smaller one (or I guess lesser known)

Legend has it that Consumed went to FAT with the new record. Mike didn't like half of it and offered them some NOFX "scraps" to record instead, to fill the record!!! Obviously they were insulted at this proposition and went to BYO instead. Then they broke up after it came out... shame too, as they also had Goober Patrol and Snuff, looks like the UK isnt "cool" anymore.

Hahahaaa, i fucking wish that were true - we'd have jumped at it ;) Mike didn't like the album, we did. Mike didn't put the record out, Golf/BYO did. Not as interesting but true wes x

Sick of it All are leaving for I think Century Media. There main complaint was that Fat didn't do a good job in Europe - which is really big for them. They don't hold stock of cd's here now, so when it goes out of stock, it takes weeks to get it again. Well that's what the they told me.

This totally caught me off guard. Bracket's been on Fat forever. Alkaline Trio played the best set I've ever seen in my life tonight and Rise Against was fucking horrendous.

Bracket never release a major album. Their album was release under Caroline, Fat Wreck Chords and Hi Rise. Chek your source buddy. Maybe you thougth of Nerf Herder that their first album under a major label, Arista, before to sign with Honest's don.

My thoughts on two things Takeover:re-release Bracket's Caroline records catalogue, c'mon you know you want to hear the brilliant "2 hotdogs for 99cents" remastered. D4:great band, smarter than your average 4 chord punk group, there is no way that Fat Mike wouldn't renew their contract, they aren't going to sell as much records as say.....Nufan or Strung Out, but still I would die to have that band on my label Barkley

Has anyone actually listened to the new Bracket stuff on the purevolume? As someone who grew up on the fat/epitaph sound but for the past couple years have been freaking out on the Beach Boys, I'm really digging on this.
