Thrice has posted the first video from their upcoming sophomore release
for Island titled Vheissu. The album is the follow up to The Artist in the Ambulance as well as their recent DVD+CD release If We Could Only See Us Now. A number of readers wrote in about the recent appearance of a full album stream on the band's myspace page.
The band has engaged in an intensive internet campaign for the album, most recently posting a one minute "trailer" for the album. They also recently posted the fourth of their ongoing Podcast series which includes clips from tracks 10-11 and discussion from the band. Previous marketing efforts have included a digitally locked media file, registration required song samples and the aforementioned podcasts. The video was directed by Jay Martin (Burning Brides, Eagles of Death Metal) and the treatment for the clip was written by Thrice vocalist Dustin Kensrue, and based it on the City of Lost Children You can check out the video here: "Image of the Invisible." The full album stream is available from their myspace page. According to sources close to the the band, while the video was based on the fictional french film, it brought to the band's attention the plight of the children of Uganda, many of whom are kidnapped from their parents and forced to serve in the rebel armies currently in conflict with the government of the country. Consequently, the band will also be working with Invisible Children, a group which aims to end the barbaric practice. The album is due out October 18th and the band has enlisted Underoath, The Bled and Veda for the support tour that will visit the US and Canada. Island Records (86 comments)

haha, anyone else think the bad guys in the video look like those things from half-life 2? anyway this was really the only decent song of the album. what's with video's being all dramatic, and hollywood big screen like now? sellouts. 2+ Replies

I was going to check it out the video for the hell of it....but their player doesn't support Firefox so now I really don't care. - www.robotplague.com

Eh, well I like it. But I agree, too much Thrice, and it's strange because these guys are so modest and down to earth, all of this exposure doesn't seem to really fit them.

how come they made the trailer work with macs but not the actual video? 2+ Replies

The Video is ok. Too many close ups - Dustin's not that pretty. And not enough context for what's going on. Great effort though. Most bands just throw together live footage for videos or you just see them sitting around being stupid.

god damnit! IE sucks. why can't they just make this shit available through quicktime? arrrggghhhh. microsoft is evil.

In addition to Invisible Children, there's a really amazing campaign started by some friends of mine called Gulu Walk. Go to www.guluwalk.com for some more info, and maybe think about joining this important cause

sick video, too bad its the only song that ive heard that i like off the new album. Thrice have lost their speed, its all "atmospheric" crap they're playing now. Image of the invisible is one of the best songs that they have written, and damn catchy at that, but thrice have almost lost the whole aggression fator which was still present on TAITA, and was definitely there for illusion of safety, but these songs seem somewhat deppressingly slow. I know that they wanted to make a "atmospheric" record, but im really not diggin it. TAITA is one of the only hardcore/emocore crossover albums that i can handle, partly because the topics which they sing about ar'n't only about emo/love crap, but they are passionate about the topics which they sing about. TAITA influenced me in so many ways, and atm, this album seems to be a real let down from these guys except for Image of the invisible.

Am I the only one who thinks the video is kick ass? And the storm troopers look like the evil version of Sam Fisher. 2+ Replies

This album is great, great music. I really dig the direction they took it, and this kind of progression always brings out the hypocrites. If they recorded TAITA part II, you'd complain until your voice hurts about how they just copied their last record, but they do something completely different and inventive, and you still give them shit. It's ridiculous. 3+ Replies

Great video, fits the tone of the song perfectly. I think the most ironic thing I've seen on this site is someone asking for the Ramones contest winners followed by someone saying "no talent". Being first doesn't make you the most talented. This band is incredible. 1+ Reply

I've always loved thrice and I always will. The change in their sound shows how much talent and balls this band has.. I dig their new style. I guess not all good bands fall within the deep clutches of the tainted Music Industry. I can't wait to get the cd.

Considering how long ago this album leaked, the fact that you can hear it on myspace is no big deal. and even tho i enjoy this album quite a lot, the advertising campaign annoys the fuck outta me. i just hope this is all the label's fault, cuz i would hate to think that that the band could be so sadistic. on a final note, the video kinda sucks. 2+ Replies

These guys have had some cool videos. This one's definitely their best, however. Way to go guys.

Wow, I didn't even realize I commented twice on this thread, saying almost the same shit. I must have been drunk the first time.

Haha, i remember when this cd was recorded, and island first heard it. they had NO IDEA about how to promote it and what to do with it. I guess they just figured "let's do everything at the same time" to be able to get into both punk/hardcore crowd and the pitchfork crowd.
Someone (October 14, 2005)
I loved every song on the CD. With Image being my least favorite. First listen through I was like 'meh' But after that it just grew incredibly on me. Now I listen to the whole thing like once a day, it sounds incredible. I love it.

Wow, is it just me or have Thrice totally thrown away any uniqueness and distinction from other bands that they had before? This sucks. 1+ Reply

they've lost their speed. i dont want them to right another TAITA, but hell maybe even 1 song that had an element of speed and aggression would be nice! Their is no way that a band can right a whole slow album, and think that it will have the power and aggression of an album that changes the tempo up. They had that on TAITA ie under a killing moon vs silhoutte. they dont change it up. the only real change between the songs that ive heard is the production, which aint original. This album sounds like the same slow depressing song, cept 4 image of...

Pretty cool video...the song's OK, not that great. Maybe I'll warm to it though.
GreenVandal (October 15, 2005)
This album is really good. Its much more atmospheric and better put together then their other stuff. I will miss the shredding days of thrice, but this new atmospheric pop metal thing works for them. If you dont like the song "Of Dust and Nations" then you have brain cancer. Image of the invisible is BY FAR the worst song on the album. 1+ Reply

this so-called "intensive internet campaign" has made me absolutely hate this band. i am so tired of seeing their "news" posted every other day on this site. before i may have been interested in listening to the new album, but any desire to hear it has evaporated in the last few weeks with this ridiculous "internet campaign".
