Reignition's Smashing Pumpkins tribute has release date, artwork, details

Reignition has set a date for their tribute to the Smashing Pumpkins titled The Killer In You. The label describes the compilation simply as "a tribute album to the best band of the past decade" and will be releasing the album via digital services and then on CD. Due out on November 1st will be an iTunes exclusive version, followed by other download retailers including Downloadpunk, Napster, MSN, Yahoo and Rhapsody. On January 31st, 2006, the CD version will hit store shelves.

Song samples will be made available on the tribute's official myspace page. Currently, Roses Are Red's previously released cover of "Cherub Rock" can be found there.

Interestingly, since the project was announced Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan announced his own plans to resurrect the popular and influential 90s "alternative rock" act though little information has surfaced since the statement Corgan made in June.

Maybe the pumpkins brought you to the discovery of dashboard confessional by some demented turn of events, but for most of us; they were a gateway band to nowhere. Yeah, I can't really say Smashing Pumpkins inspired many bands today. They were certainly big in their time, but in terms of producing a sort of sonic legacy that was widely copied, I'm not so sure.

look at the list of bands; half-assed nu-emo shitpopcore acts that can't hold a candle to the poetry of corgan's lyrics, the ability of any of the band members' musicmanship, or the influence on music as a whole that the pumpkins were able to achieve. if anything this will give half these acts notoriety as a small asterik in the history of rock as an act that used a talented band to gain attention with a shitty cover song.

People still like Smashing Pumpkins? Holy 1995 batman. SD was a pretty lame ass album when it came out and remains that way to this very day. 1979 was one of the most annoying songs I have ever heard. The double album that came out after had some admittingly good songs on it, but for the most part it was chalk full of filler and shouldn't have been a double album. Also Billy Corgan is a douche and should be forgotten not tributed.

What an odd gathering of songs. I mean I guess you don't want to do all the "hits" but where is "Today"? That song rocked, if only becase James Iha (sp?) was in a dress in the video. 'Today' is the first track. i like 'Cherub Rock' and 'Zero' a little bit, though i'm sure these versions will be massacred. they had a good song called 'XYZ' i think on Mellon Collie, they shoulda released that.

it's all good, i've done worse. you probably saw Armor For Sleep written there and blocked it out. who opened for Gogol? fucking haloween decorations, this chick i work with (who's hot as hell, so i shouldn't bitch) put up all sorts of shit all over the place, fake spider webs, stupid ghost things, etc. and some spider thing that drops down when you make noise, of course it scared the crap out of me and she had a good laugh.

Right on. Uhm...The Scootch Greens (who rule) and Throw Rag opened. I plan to write a review so we'll see how that goes. But I was seriously let down by Throw Rag. I've seen them twice and they just seemed less alive this time. I don't know if it was just the lack of Washboard but it didn't seem quite as good. The best way I could describe it is a poor mans Stone Temple Pilots. As for the decorations, at least you have attractive women. All the chicks in my area are sea cows. -Dante

I'm seriously not liking how aubinnews.org is going these days...
