Pennywise's Jim Lindberg planning “punk rock” parenting book

Jim Lindberg, of Pennywise has recently signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a book about parenting. The frontman, who has three children, is planning to take on the subject from his own perspective, with a working title of Punk Rock Dad.

Lindberg, who formed Pennywise in 1988 with Dragge, McMackin and original bassist Jason Thirsk, has been with the band throughout their eight albums, the latest of which is The Fuse released earlier this year.

who cant properly market, which kind of spoils getting things to the masses. literature is a bit different than music. 95% of the authors you read go through large publishers, that is, if you read at all. looking at most of the comments on this site, i have to add that disclaimer, which makes me pretty damn sad.

Sidescroller: Any Mega Man game will do. I recommend Mega Man 2 RPG: Dragon Warrior is one of the first, and best, though primitive. Sports: TECMO BOWL!!!! Stay away from the Simpsons games but I recommend the Ninja Turtle games. The first one is really hard.

i certainly dont think pennywise is the greatest band to ever make music, but i honestly believe that most of the "pennywise makes the same album everytime" jokes come from people who are in the 15-20 age bracket, those who started listening to punk after the internet had exploded, and who, quite frankly, consider themselves "too cool" to listen to pennywise. if you actually did, youd know the "jock-core" label couldnt be further from the truth. its not madball or hatebreed, for ramone's sake. [i actually like both of those bands, but can understand the label] and thats fine. but those of us who lived in small towns and actually had to buy albums without a large(or really, any) choice(which, at least for me, meant a diet of epitaphfat/hopeless/victory), pennywise was pretty good. yeah. the last 3 albums sucked. you could say that about a lot of punk bands last 3 albums. eventually,

I'm 23. I grew up listening to MxPx, Bad Religion, NoFX, and the like. I still like it. In the past year, I've bought albums from the likes of Millencolin, Lagwagon, NUFAN, Diesel Boy and Bracket. I own both Full Circle and About Time. That style means a lot to me. Pennywise sounds the same now as they did when I was sixteen. And it's not a joke. It's true. It's why I don't listen to them anymore.

I agree with you completely. Yeah, their last few albums have not been all that great, but that happens to almost every band that has been around as long as they have. I am 23 as well, I still throw in Full Circle if I want to wax nostalgic. Good times. I also agree that some of these kiddies need to get some new material. Ummm yeah. If you are trying to say that BR's last two albums are any where near as good as Generator or Suffer, then I would have to disagree. When I first got into both bands, everything they did was pure gold. But now, not so much. That isn't necessarily their fault. I have grown up and so have my musical tastes. That is not to say I don't like them, it just means that their new stuff just doesn't do as much for me as it did in the early to mid 90's when I first got into them. DC

What I'm trying to say is that Suffer and Generator are okay albums whose qualityy is overblown due to nostalgia. No Control, Against The Grain, Stranger Than Fiction and Gray Race blow those out of the water. And, yes, Empire was not great, but BR tries new things with each album. They mature their sound. Sometimes it doesn't work (New America, Empire Strikes First), sometimes it does (Process Of Belief, No Substance). They're not the same band they were in 1990, but they're still good. That was my point.

When I was 15-18 I loved every Pennywise Album. But now i'm in my 21 and the last few albums all are the same album. The problem with Pennywise is that they don't evolve. The sound stays the same and so do the lyrics. They're all in their 30s but they're still singing about fighting with their parents and about beings punk. The only song that shows they've aged is "yesterdays" which is just about them wishing they could be kids again. All of this fighting with your parents, us vs. cool people stuff is relevant when your a teenager, but once you leave your parents house it's hard to relate to their lyrics.

No, it's not. Those aren't the only two choices a band has. There's a third one. It's called "Mature, but don't suck". The reason people complain when a band changes their sound is when it doesn't make sense or it seems to be an obvious attempt at change. Speaking as someone in a band, I'm constantly looking at my old songs and wondering how I can best them with my new ones. I still write the same style, but I try and bring more complexity, more energy, more hooks and more experimentation into each one. Plenty of bands have changed their sound and matured, but it's sounded logical. The Lawrence Arms, Bad Religion, Green Day, Blink-182, Millencolin, just to name a few. I have no problem if you like Pennywise, I still like some of their old albums. But even if you listen to them, you have to agree, they do keep releasing what is essentially the same album.

I though Jim was going to write a book a few years ago about Black Flag and the Hardcore scene in the early 80s. He was gonna write something about how punk wasn't just the Ramones and Sex Pistols. Hopefully this will be good. I think he has an English degree.

For all of those posting hater comments...you obviously do not know what punk rock is, or you would not be so closed-minded to assume that what jim is doing is absurd. The "esspecially closed minded" part comes in since the bashers haven't even read the fucking book. Not many people have at this point. And to stomp on pennywise for not being "punk enough" - I bet a lot of the haters aren't even punk rock enough to be logging onto punknews.org
Which isn't even punk to being with.
Go get a life and make some art instead of wasting eveyone's time with your fucked up, non-punk judgements.
