Lindberg, who formed Pennywise in 1988 with Dragge, McMackin and original bassist Jason Thirsk, has been with the band throughout their eight albums, the latest of which is The Fuse released earlier this year.
Jim Lindberg, of Pennywise has recently signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a book about parenting. The frontman, who has three children, is planning to take on the subject from his own perspective, with a working title of Punk Rock Dad.

Anyone else assume that all of Pennywise's working titles were simply "Society?"
AlmostPunkEnough (December 27, 2005)
i like Pennywise, not one of my favorites, but i like them. that being said; this is an awful idea.
Someone (December 27, 2005)

I hope it's not him repeating "Premeditated murder" over and over.... -Mocephus

aren't pennywise anti-corporate? and if they are, why are they working with HarperCollins?

Ten years down the road he will write 5 books that are all the same, 3 of which that contain the same chapter, all titled Chapter 5 tribute.

seems like he finally realized that making music wasnt his thing anymore

I'd assume the main lesson here is how to teach your kid to be as mediocre and cookie-cutter for as long as possible and still have people like you. Actually, on second thought, that's the way things are right now when I look around me, so save some trees and don't write the fucking book.

Doesn't sound quite like the most profitable idea ever, but I'd borrow it from the library.

Oh yeah, can anyone recommend some Nintendo (original 8-bit NES) games that are really good? I've pretty much worn out the classics. I bought "Blaster Master" today but I'm not crazy about it.

Lame......I used to love PW but every second that goes by they get worse in my book. Jim Lindberg is a conservative parent (he wouldn't even allow his Black Flag cover track on Rollins' WM3 Benefit album for fucksake), he's gone the way of many 40 year olds I see now, who used to like Black Flag in their youth but now only listen to U2 and Creed....fucking cop out.

i certainly dont think pennywise is the greatest band to ever make music, but i honestly believe that most of the "pennywise makes the same album everytime" jokes come from people who are in the 15-20 age bracket, those who started listening to punk after the internet had exploded, and who, quite frankly, consider themselves "too cool" to listen to pennywise. if you actually did, youd know the "jock-core" label couldnt be further from the truth. its not madball or hatebreed, for ramone's sake. [i actually like both of those bands, but can understand the label]
and thats fine. but those of us who lived in small towns and actually had to buy albums without a large(or really, any) choice(which, at least for me, meant a diet of epitaphfat/hopeless/victory), pennywise was pretty good. yeah. the last 3 albums sucked. you could say that about a lot of punk bands last 3 albums. eventually, show rest of comment

maybe he should change his name. we all know what happened to that other lindberg baby.
Someone (December 28, 2005)
He will mention nothing of raising your children t othink outside of gender, and therefore this book already sucks ass. It will probably be about sunglasses and lemonade. And playing tours run with corporate sponsors to destroy "society" or the "system" Beautiful!
Someone (December 28, 2005)
I though Jim was going to write a book a few years ago about Black Flag and the Hardcore scene in the early 80s. He was gonna write something about how punk wasn't just the Ramones and Sex Pistols. Hopefully this will be good. I think he has an English degree.
Someone (December 23, 2006)
For all of those posting hater comments...you obviously do not know what punk rock is, or you would not be so closed-minded to assume that what jim is doing is absurd. The "esspecially closed minded" part comes in since the bashers haven't even read the fucking book. Not many people have at this point. And to stomp on pennywise for not being "punk enough" - I bet a lot of the haters aren't even punk rock enough to be logging onto punknews.org |
