We wrote a song in Spain, we wrote a song in Chicago...and when you write lyrics on the road they tend to be more psychedelic. There's one song that we started at the beginning of this tour and I think we've jammed it every day. It's been played all around the world in many, many different places and I think that's kind of a cool thing. The band plans to enter the studio this spring with an as-yet-unnamed producer and will release their followup to last year's Elevator sometime later this year.

Hot Hot Heat have an album planned for release later this year. The band has been writing and demoing material in between tour stints with the likes of Weezer, the Foo Fighters, The Redwalls and Diamond Nights. Drummer Paul Hawley says of the songs:

There's one song that we started at the beginning of this tour and I think we've jammed it every day. It's been played all around the world in many, many different places and I think that's kind of a cool thing. You'll notice that nowhere in there did they mention that it won't suck, because it will. Make up the Breakdown (that's what it was called right?) was a good album but their last one blow hard ass. I can't really see this being any better. -Dante

Eyes Ears Mouth really should have made it on to Elevator. The demo for that is better than most everything on that disc.

The first few songs on Elevator were really good, fun, and catchy tunes, but after "I.O.U." or whatever it is called, I cannot recall a single catchy lyric or hook. - Kirby

Make Up the Breakdown was an awesome fucking record. I remember seeing these guys with their old guitar player at the Fireside Bowl two months before Bandages got them all that attention, there couldn't have been more than 40 people there. It was awesome. Then Elevator came out and it sucked. Maybe it was sophomore slump. Or not. Blah blah blah, It's gonna be alllrrriiiggghttttttt.

Fuck these guys. I quite enjoyed their first album. But now they're in a futile scramble to regain the "next big thing" status they had about four years ago. They should change their name to The Mooney Suzuki. Haw!

"Goodnight Goodnight" has possibly one of the most annoying choruses ever

Wow, hating Hot Hot Heat sure is the cool thing to do now. Elevator was awesome.

Elevator wasn't as good as Make Up The Breakdown ... we all know that. But every band deserves a mulligan, in my book. So I'm gonna keep an open mind about the new stuff. You guys really like hating this band, which is weird; it's not like they're MTV superstars or anything. |
