A recent feature in the Yale Daily News discusses an appearance by Ian MacKaye at the elite school. According to the story, MacKaye discussed the purpose and meaning of underground music and how art can be used to question authority.

According to the report, MacKaye openly criticized major label bands that claimed to be "punk" and explained that true punk rock focuses on challenging convention, not earning profits. He ended with a discussion of the concept of "underground," and its identity as a place for social rebellion and progressive politics.
