The Transplants have apparently split up.
In a recent interview, frontman Skinhead Rob confirmed the rumours which began shortly after the group cancelled their fall tour.
The band, originally formed in 2002 and released two albums, The Transplants and most recently Haunted Cities. Each of the three members has ongoing projects however, with Travis Barker working on Plus 44. Skinhead Rob has formed Expensive Tastes with Paul Wall and Tim Armstrong still has Rancid. How many of you watch Meet the Barkers? Don't you all find it hilarious how much of Travis and all of his friends dress up and talk like paper gangsters? I mean dude, I know you came from nothing, but you are a multi-millionaire. It's why rap is a joke, stop playing into this. 2+ Replies

While this is great news, it could have been made better if all three members had declared they would never play music ever again. Period.
Someone (January 19, 2006)
Thats Awesome! They failed to mention that Tim Armstrong has M.S. and probably will never play again. I guess they are waiting for the right time to announce that! 5+ Replies

these new hip hop fuckers should not be awarded money for making sub-par music. diamond encrusted "grills" for your teeth? how about donating those million of dollars to needy children in third world countries? those assholes give 500 sets of pencil and paper to hurricane katrina victims then boast about their charity work like it's a huge fucking deal. fuck them.
Someone (January 19, 2006)
the Transplants was good music, but that fake-gangsta-lyrical shit pretty much ruined it for those sick of that trendy shit on MTV. If they got rid of "skinhead" rob, and had social-political lyrics like In Op Ivy, it couldv'e done a lot of good to the music industry 7+ Replies

hahahhahhahhahah the beginning of that article starts up with talking about another rapper hooking up with a rock group....and they are talking about paul wall hooking up with rob...which is which? - jones the bones - stevejones8770@yahoo.com
gladimnotemo (January 19, 2006)
As a (still) general fan of Armstrong's output, I'd say this is a great thing. The last CD, which I unfortunately bought, was good until anyone opened their mouth.

FuckYouOiOiOi (January 19, 2006)
i'm sure this has been said but, how the fuck was skinhead rob the frontman?!? tim had a much bigger (and better) part in that band (at least in the songs that were memorable). also, this band wasn't too bad, granted they weren't good but they weren't as bad as people made you believe. some of those songs were catchy and good songs to relax to. granted, skinhead rob's rapping was borderline retarded but if you just learn to be able to laugh at those parts, those albums can be quite an experience. 2+ Replies

Who cares? Rancid are a good introductory band for a lot of young kids, but I think they've waaaay out-stayed their welcome. It's been 16 years of the same cliche Clash rip off street punk dribble... Let some new band take over. Your last album was a failed bid to capture some new audience, Transplants were a joke, and this new album is going to be the same think. Tim, with all your garbled, half-retarded speak, you're the punchline. -Will 1+ Reply

By the way, does anyone remember those hysterical "journal entries" Lars used to post on his site... They were supposed to be all hardcore punk rawk, scribbly writing and all... And they were all about how "street" he was, but usually capped with some really generic "message." It always made me see him as the Mr. T for stupid kids with mohawks and Exploited shirts. -Will 3+ Replies

Um, this is boring. I responded to FuckYouOiOiOi's stupid rant about Bikini Kill...
Most psychologists associate girls who sleep around with a conflicting/absent father figure and a weak mother figure. I pretty much agree... the same way guys can turn to crime because of their parents, society molds girls to do other dissentful acts that are easier because of their bodies.
The problem is, no sort of parents generally contribute to guys who take advantage of confused/younger/drugged out girls. That's very sexist behavior, and it's perpetuated by a society that never repremands males for that sort of thing. I look down upon any man who says "yeah, she WANTED to be objectified." No, she didn't. No one wants to be used. We trick ourselves into thinking that. We get stuck in self-destructive patterns. No one wants to be sexually used just how no one wants to become a heroin addict. The show rest of comment 4+ Replies

(i now prepare for the influx of shit of a general nature being hurled in my direction)
This sucks. It does. I LIKED TRANSPLANTS. I did. You dont like them, thats your business. But lets do this: ok, the music. The music itself was killer. Tim is a fuckin mad scientist on ProTools LE, and it shows. More bands should sound like that. Second, the lyrics. Ok. How do i put this? Interesting. yeah. not exactly thought-provoking or society-changing. But hey, no different (and actually a bit tamer) than 99% of the rap thats out there today, and they sell millions and millions of records. Plus, if you kinda take what robs sayin with a grain of salt, and just listen to his delivery, the way he spits it out, glued to the instrumentals, its actually sonically very pleasing. and PS travis is an awesome drummer. anyway, my predicion is that Lars and the Bastards will be next to break up. show rest of comment 3+ Replies

yeah, i liked the transplants first album, but i didn't dig haunted cities very much. This is good news though, now maybe Tim can get back to Rancid and stop screwing around with this crap. it woulda been cool to see them before they broke up though.

I hope this creates a rift between "Blockhead" Rob and Tim, this might even explain why the Hellcat site has been down for a while. In all honesty, I really liked this band. For one reason, it was something different and original. Granted I'm sure all you "punks" out there are too "punk" to admit you like something that's not "punk" because it would present you as a "pouser" or "sell-out" or what have you... At least it was something different...rather than the same 3 chords or bubble gum pop that rules the airwaves today... 1+ Reply

The amount of haters on this site is impressive. Definite Playa Haters Ball going on. Some of this crap is pretty wack nuts for sure though. Saying Tim has M.S. or cancer isn't a funny joke and I seriously doubt you be saying this bullshit if you were close with someone afflicted with either of these things. Saying Skinhead Rob or Tim sucks is one thing but making really low blows like that really shows just how immature some of these knuckleheads are on this site. And yes, I'm going to go to pray for all your sins this weekend. Love, Jesus

I loved that moment when Tim or Skinhead Rob yelled out during their shows: "Put your trigger-finger in the air!" ...and all those dipshits at Warped followed in unison, like a bunch of idiot thugs! At that moment, I really wanted to take them to a hip-hop awards show [where real gun violence actually breaks out and everyone's got a piece]-- ...and show them what true "thug life" is about. Should have happened before the 2nd album, then I'd be sad. I loved that first album, but the 2nd album just had awful lyrics. Yeah, i'm sure Skinhead Rob is a real gangsta. I really like them musically and when they don't sing about pretending to be gangstas and thug life. I think the tattoos on Robs head are affecting his brain, every interview he is in he sounds like a 11 year old trying to talk hard to impress his friends.

I found this news, albeit old, to be quite sad. Having had the honor of being under their tent for five hours prior to their set thanks to knowing Big J, (Roughnecks, LFATB, guitar tech and overall great guy, I had the pleasure of meeting Tim for the first time and staying dry during a rain delay in a crap town known as "Pompano" in Florida. I find it amazing how many of your members write such horrible things about Tim, Op Ivy, Rancid and yet the site is covered with Articles related to Tim and Rancid.
Someone is a particularly harsh critic. Although I had been to every Rancid show I could ever get to (currently following them to Boston and back to NY for 6 consecutive nights) other than the Florida dates a month ago (they were amazing) the last time I could get to them was in NYC in 2003.
