Footage from Velvet Underground DVD online

On January 24th Rhino Entertainment will release the first ever Velvet Underground DVDL Velvet Redux: Live MCMXCIII. The disc will feature performance footage from the quartet's 1993 European reunion tour, filmed live at the Paris Olympia on June 15, 16, and 17. The band's original line-up of Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Moe Tucker perform extended versions of songs like "Femme Fatale," "Pale Blue Eyes" and "Heroin" on the release, along with more obscure tracks like "Hey Mr. Rain" and "I'm Sticking With You" as well as (then) new song "Coyote."

Rhino has put a two full song clips from the release online as a preview:

sound quality is great but lou reeds vocals has taken it's toll. besides that it's pretty good. not essential but if you have the money then i say go for it.

Meh, I'd rather just listen to the albums. Maybe if this was vintage footage instead of limp renditions of their classic songs.

Nah... You know how much fucking footage there is of this band playing in their prime? Tons- and no one is releasing it. Yeah, maybe the audio is a little fucked up, but it's better than these old farts rehashing their wild days for mad cash. -Will

I dunno... Maybe I'm being a little harsh... Just today, 11 people were imprisoned pending trials for alleged acts of eco-defense... And I am just thinking "okay, fuck these dinos." Shit needs to be done by people who are still willing to be relevant, and I love the Velvets, but when I hear about younger people going to jail for sticking up for what they believe in and acting for a just cause, the last thing I want to read about is some crass cash-in by some old dinos. -Will

Rather, music industry cash in to revolutionary action. Just a state of mind, I guess. I never saw the Velvets as a real "underground," anti-mainstream band, and this kind of confirms that. -Will

1. fuck underground -- relevant bands set out to challenge the status quo. they rarely set out to be "underground." its usually just a bi-product of creating music that isn't easily understood/appreciated by the masses. 2. dude neither of us were around in the late 60s early 70s. at least i wasn't born until 83 and i'm pretty sure i'm older than you, maybe not. here's the top 10 singles from 1968, the year that "white light/white heat" came out 1. Hey Jude, The Beatles 2. Honey, Bobby Goldsboro 3. Love Is Blue, Paul Mauriat 4. (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, Otis Redding 5. People Got To Be Free, Rascals 6. Sunshine Of Your Love, Cream 7. This Guy's In Love With You, Herb Alpert 8. Stoned Soul Picnic, Fifth Dimension 9. Mrs. Robinson, Simon and Garfunkel 10. Tighten Up, Archie Bell and The Drells tell me that the velvets were anything other than "anti-mainstream"

I wasn't using it as an insult at all. Velvets were cool and didn't give a fuck about an audience, but I doubt they would have minded "Heard Her Call My Name" going to top ten on a major label. Once again, great band. I love the Modern Lovers, as well... Kind of a sheltered, suburban Velvet Underground thing. -Will

I got it, it's just not "Arrested Development" funny, it's more like "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" final season funny. So there Mr. Masters Degree in funny.

Yeah, I want stuff from the first four albums, with the whole lineup (although I guess Loaded didn't have everybody?); Nico footage as well. This seems boring compared to the original stuff.

The band didn't reunite in 2003, they reunited in 1993. Sterling Morrison was long since dead in 2003. You guys can't get anything right, ever.

I was a big fan of 'Velvet Underground and Nico' but 'White Light/White Heat' just plain hurt my ears.
