Finch today announced that they are going on an "indefinite break." The Geffen act had this to say:

personally I think Finch was a great band. Better than those Emo bands out there. They should have stuck this out longer. 2+ Replies

"What it is to Burn" is kind of good, although repetitive. But at least it had some catchy songs that surpassed most of the pop-rock bands at the time. The new record is just shit...too much hanging out with Deryk Palumbo (which you think might be a good thing) when you have none of his talent or ability 3+ Replies

I am bummed. I bet a friend $10 that Finch was going to be a huge band after What it is to Burn came out. I don't like them but I just could tell with that sound. Then the single, "What it is to Burn", Started getting radio play, yes. Then they got a major label deal, Double yes! Then they put out Say Hello to Sunshine and I knew I was out $10. Finch you owe me $10! -Dante

Did A Static Lullaby also break up? For some reason I thought Finch was A Static Lullaby and that they already announced that they were breaking up. I can see why I got the 2 confused though. Well, 2 shitty "em-faux" bands down too many to fuckin' count to go. haha, I made a new word......"em-faux".......haha.

quite unfortunate but say hello to sunshine was so far off from what it is to burn i'd hate to hear what a future lp would sound like

You guys are horrible. You can dis on these guys all you want. Unfortunately your the ones who are wasting your days complaining that myspace is down, while the guys from finch have several hedlining national tours under their belts. theyll get royalty checks coming in for years, and all you can do is be too punk for them on punknews. I thought a few songs off what it is to burn semi enjoyable, and found their live show entertaining for what it was worth. now the new disk was a little bold for their style and abilities, but nonetheless got caught up in a song or 2 there also. all im saying is that these guys should get a little respect, simply because they've accomplished a hell of a lot more than most of you ever will. 7+ Replies

I reall liked that one song. I don't know what it was but it was good. I think we should all give them a break. I mean I felt like being mean when the Transplants broke up, but c'mon. These guys are no Transplants. Show something close to respect for a good run. It's not my thing either but sheesh.
NoUse4aScnName00 (February 20, 2006)
their first cd was great. it fit alongside the current 'emo' trends but was out before that trend was established. i'm not going to call their first cd original but when it came out, it had enough hard punk and good hooks to keep me interested. it was a great sounding cd. the second cd came along and grasped all the cliche's of that trend like Senses Fail did. I was not a big fan of it.

I'm so punk that when a band breaks up that isnt: The Lawrence Arms Dillinger Four Against Me! The Loved Ones The Weakerthans or NOFX I make fun of them. Because I'm so punk that I worship the same six bands everyone else does. -Punkest 8+ Replies

its mainly because we cant stand to see anything that could potentially be mistaken for "emo" get any sort of attention. basically, finch got a little too popular. earning them the hate of the collective punk scene... well... whats left of it. 6+ Replies

Say what you want about the band, but the first album had some killer jams. "Grey Matter,'' ''Perfection Through Silence," and "What It Is To Burn" were great. The record did have a lot of filler, but it served its purpose when I was in 9th or 10th grade. 1+ Reply

finch will be missed. one of the best live bands i have ever seen and some of the nicest guys out there to boot. this is a total loss for their fans, and everyone who wants to talk shit can go to hell. seriously what did you guys ever do that makes you historians/experts on your precious "scene"?
vaginalinferno (February 21, 2006)
hahaaa ahh you guys are so goddamn ignorant
This is incredibly sad news to me, and i was sort of afraid it was coming. obviously the new album is a bold and unusual step for this band who could have monopolized the scene if they put out another What it Is to Burn.
Finch tried doing something different, put their hearts into this crazy new daring album that most people didn't appreciate at all. I saw them live recently with Rx Bandits, and the crowd was all into the old shit (which, honestly could have been written by my asshairs) and finch would roll their eyes or be like whats that? you wanna hear a new one?
anyway they played the new shit really tight, and it was one of the finest shows i've seen in recent memory.
i really respect the direction they took, and i'm seriously going to miss this band. I was excited to see where a new album would take them. show rest of comment 2+ Replies
Someone (February 21, 2006)
you know, for a bunch of guys who claim to like (or at least respect) the Rx bandits, and TSOAF, you guys are douchebags to this band. One of the reasons finch broke up i'm sure had to do with the fact that the new album didn't have as many fans as the old one, YET it has all the marks of a good experimental album like tsoaf or rxb.
BlaZinPEnIs (February 21, 2006)
Come on guys! I will miss this band very much... i really wished it wouldnt have come to this.
Finch is a band that made a huge impact on the music scene and on some of the leading artist in the industry today. Something like that deserves respect. Even if you didn't like their music, you should appreciate the simple fact that they got signed to a major label and didnt release an ablum that was radio friendly or continued the crappy emo/screamo trend that everyone on Punknews.org bitches about!
It saddens me that their new ablum didnt pull through for these guys, its not everyday that you see a band put their careers on the line by dratically changing their sound, like they did with "say hello to sunshine". I love that ablum. Musically its fantastic and its terrible that nobody really embraced that. I suppose the tainted music industry wins once again by taking out a ba show rest of comment 1+ Reply
