Media: Big D and the Kids Table release video for "L.A.X."

Big D and the Kids Table have posted the latest video from their 2004 release, How It Goes.

The video was produced by Dan Dobi and you can check it out right here: "L.A.X.."

The band issued the Salem Girls EP last year. They supported that release on tour with Less Than Jake.

Besides that, the band is planning a new full length, which is set to be primarily "ska/punk" but also include some dub-style material like that which appeared on Salem Girls.

It says in the liner notes to How It Goes. It's something like 26 or 27.

Ha, maybe I should pick up the actual album so I would know these things. I found a promo copy for $2 right after it came out and never looked back.

i dont know, its more of making fun of a certain kind of people in LA, i agree LA is a great city, but if you deny that the people he describes arent in LA, then you are kidding yourself

of course there are people like that in l.a. but there are people like that everywhere. and i always think its funny to hear a punk/ska/indie etc. band talk about how fashion is stupid. especially when you see how those guys are dressed.

I have to say, it's sort of pot meets kettle when it comes to getting pissed over a generalization on a place. If I recall correctly, you bashed Texas for no reason in particular, yet you got pissed over this band making fun of LA.

That's easily the most subdued you'll ever see Dave whilst singing. For a dude who's like... 5'9" or so, he commands the stage like a giant with all his energy.

so was that a yes or a no? i've heard two songs from them, one sounded like a throwaway limp bizkit song, and the other one was this. after watching this, the only way i could ever take this dude seriously was if i found out he was just fucking around.

one of the best lead singers as far as performance goes ever. Vocally hes a bit weird and takes time to get used to. Stage presence = amazing.

When watching this video, the very first time they show the drummer and his damn hat, I thought they were showing one of the LA fashionable fucks the song is attacking. And it looks like the lead singer really does have the "do my shoes match my shirt" thing, when it comes to his hair. Just seems like a lot of energy spent on silliness. Also, the song is just ridiculously long. Interminably so. I feel like most ska-punk bands have very mediocre horn players, as horns go. They always seem to be very simple things for a small amount of the song and then hop around a lot. All of that said... I think the video looks nice and it's a catchy song with a sound that I have liked for over ten years. So, I guess I like it.

Yeah, Big D's horn players are pretty shitty, very untalented...given their degrees from that pesky prestigious Berklee Music school and all that.

Yeah, George W. Bush is really stupid, very untalented... given his degrees from those pesky prestigious Yale and Harvard Universities and all that. Shut the fuck up. Who are you trying to scrimmage like you're the champion? Their horns are particularly unimpressive and are underused (just listen to the parts in LAX). Maybe they CAN play them well. Maybe they KNOW a lot about music. That has nothing to do with it. The proof is in the pudding and you're a fucking mongoloid for using the line of argument that you chose.

Really? I think most (established) ska band horn players seem pretty good (Streetlight, Catch 22, Mad Caddies come to mind). Guitarists, on the other hand... But that's okay, ska guitarists are allowed to not be that good as long as the songwriting and the rest of the band is good (just look at Tomas Kalonky-led bands)

I think their point is to spend a lot of energy on silliness. Some bands are out there to scream about politics or their broken hearts. Big D is out there to have fun. As for the horns thing: I don't think they are necessarily bad, I think their style of music just doesn't call for particularly intricate horn parts. They probably could play much harder parts, just like many pop punk guitarists could play more complex riffs, it's more a matter of songwriting than musical talent.

2 Things... 1. I think Skaboom hit the nail right on the head with the horns thing. That said, there's a real tendency in ska-punk bands to underuse their horns and to have them play very simple notes over choruses, etc., which is kind of unfortunate, I think. 2. The_other_scott, I think, really graps the weird irony of this song. It's just strange.

I always wonder if Avi get's on here and checks Punknews and sees the Springman logo and is like, "Woah, one of my bands did something. let's see what it is". I know that's how I'd run my label, by being the last to know you can already judge the buzz around your artists news. Of course it also causes a shit load of problems in PR, marketing, and artist relations. But, that's why I have lawyers...Thousands of em. -Dante
