Blackout! to release "digital vinyl" beginning with Guns on the Run

Following Saddle Creek's example, Blackout! Records has announced plans to offer "digital vinyl." The label will includes codes with each vinyl LP version of the release allowing listeners to download the entire album for no additional cost via Audiolunchbox. The label explained:

It's a real pain to try to rip LPs. We believe that the people who buy the collectible vinyl should be able to listen to it everywhere."
As future releases are planned, Blackout! hopes to offer similar releases digitally as well.

The arrangement will debut with the upcoming vinyl release from Guns on the Run. The band will be releasing For Glory soon via the label and you can check out three tracks on their myspace page.

That's an awesome idea. Let's just hope dicks don't exploit it and post the codes everywhere, then it'll just kill the whole concept once they realise their download count way exceeds their vinyl sales.

I think maybe there's different codes for every vinyl sold or something like that. Oh, and I can't post a comment without using the word "idea."

They'll probably be one time use codes, each numbered vinyl having a different code, so it shouldn't ever become an issue.

Very cool. I'm not a fan of the band, but as previously stated... that's an excellent Idea.

I would actually start buying vinyl if this became popular.

There's already "digital vinyl" they're called CDs, ya fuckwits! Seriously though, splendid idea. This shit best catch on like signing shtity bands and a bad case of the clap.

Shellac did something like this years ago on Touch & Go records. Steve Albini wanted the music to be heard on vinyl, but realized many people wanted CDs more. As an incentive to buy the vinyl, the CD was included for free. The vinyl version with the bonus CD was actually cheaper than the CD alone version, so people buying the CD would be paying more and getting less. If I remember correctly, the CD version had a sticker that said to buy the vinyl version instead.

They make CD burners for home stereo systems. Same concept as recording vinyl using a cassette deck. I don't think it's the most popular way though. I'm sure there are also methods of going straight from the turntable to the computer using some type of converter.

wow....amazing idea....i was kinda doing that anyways by downloading records i had on vinyl but still really cool....would be awesome for if you have a limited press if they'd have it digital.

This is a great idea! I like vinyl the best but I 've been buying CD's so I can listen to them in my car. I drive a lot for work. This label is f-n' dope for doing this.

Great idea that should spread liek wildfire. We did this for our first release on the Vodka Tonic Media label, giving people downloads when they pre-order the vinyl or CD
