Nightmare of You

More dates have been confirmed for AFI's upcoming run with the Dillinger Escape Plan and Nightmare of You. The tour will be in support of the band's long-awaited (and delayed) sophomore major label album, Decemberunderground. Many more dates are expected in the coming weeks.

The band recently unveiled the first single from the album, which promises both a return to their hardcore roots as well as some new electronic leanings. You can check out "Miss Murder" on their myspace page.

The album follows Sing the Sorrow.

I like the idea of such a diverse bill; nowadays it seems like every bill is full of bands that sound identical, and they draw one, monolithic crowd. A set like this will bring out three different groups of people who might actually hear something different than they're used to.

Assuming they come to the west coast, I will probably end up paying too much money and have to deal with an obnoxious crowd just to see an incredible band (DEP) play with a shitty past its prime band (AFI). It'll still be worth it though. Dillinger should just tour with Hella, like all the time. And then take Lightning Bolt on as support.. and then Meshuggah could alternate headline slots with DEP.. and then my shitty band could be the local opener. That would rule.

i started listening to afi shortly after i started listening to the offspring. very proud of ya is a 7star effort in my opinion, but black sails... was one of the worst(that i anticipated being good)albums ive ever heard, and its just gotten worse from there.

I don't. I know they aren't and they don't try/claim to be. My favorite album from them is Very Proud of Ya which came out a decade ago this year. So, I know there is a highly distinctive difference in their sound now as opposed to the afforementioned album and the recordings before it. I don't see where in my post one would even get the slightest idea that I said they were the same band they were 10 years ago.

They changed their sound, yeah. Sorry if they didn't stay stagnated in the hardcore/punk genre and actually wanted to go on and make music that has yet to be duplicated. Would I have liked them to stay with that sound? Of course, but it didn't happen. What did happen, however, is they put out Sing the Sorrow which, in my opinion, was the best album they have put out since Very Proud of Ya (STS is third on my list, right behind Answer That and Stay Fashionable).

So I checked out AFI's Myspace to hear the "Miss Murder" track (totally what was to be expected, btw) and the headline says "read the blog".
So I reads the blog (as I'm a muppet to suggestions).
Turns out Davey went to some ultra rad fight party (apparently eating meat is wrong but watching willing douche bags beat the shit out of each other for the ammusment of biker gangs is cool). Anyhow, I guess the Extra Action Marching Band played at the event.
My old teacher in college was a drum player in this band. I thought it was some old middle age type rock band. Apparently these guys are supposed to be bad ass. Who knew?
Anyhow, this tour looks interesting but I don't like AFI enough to care.

You can go ahead and throw that bullshit to the birds. People know damn well the reprecussions of their actions, especially if it involves getting into physical confrontations. If there is money involved and a person who is financially unstable is willingly getting into a consensual fight for some money then so be it, I don't endorse it, but that's their own personal business. No one is making them fight, they're not being forced to fight. They feel they could use the dough, and in certain cases, I am sure there is a sense of pride and self-worth in winning a fight against some stranger and getting a little cash for it.

Also, don't go on comparing a fight club to the horrific and repugnant lives that the animals in slaughterhouses lead. They aren't giving their consent to be butchered. They have done nothing wrong and have absolutely no idea what they've done to "deserve" being treated the way they are commonly are. The animal is losing its life and doesn't even get the privelage of a decent one prior to the loss. I

So I was talking about the new AFI single with some friends the other day and this guy who was staying with a friend of mine told me he was in that AFI video where they were doing the "hardcore" dancing. He said the best part was that they didn't even play AFI over the p.a. while filming. He said it was Hatebreed or something. Interesting.

So obviously most of you haven't seen DEP or AFI live. First of all it's a lot of the same kids, excluding the hot topic ones. But both bands have a shit-load of dancers, and good ones at that. I think it's probably gonna kick ass! How sweet would it be to see Davey scream with DEP on Mullet Burden or something. Seriously!

I wanted to go but the're not playing at the amphitheatre, they're playing at a venue with seats. So of course the pit tickets are sold out two months in advance, and I'm not going to a show to sit down. So that sucks.
