Gorilla Biscuits to reunite for August US tour, more details on "Start Today" reissue

United By Walter has confirmed the rumours that influential and beloved hardcore act Gorilla Biscuits will be reuniting this August for a US tour. The tour coincides with the re-release Gorilla Biscuit's classic second full length, Start Today. The album was originally released in 1989.

The disc will feature in depth liner notes written by Walter Schreifels, it will also feature a DVD of the CBGB's reunion show from August of last year. UBW adds that a special exclusive 7-inch will be available at stops on the tour.

Formed in the 1980s, the band helped define upbeat melodic hardcore and has been cited as a singular influence by a generation of hardcore bands. Guitarist Walter Schreifels' went on to form a succession of respected acts including Quicksand, Rival Schools, and Walking Concert. Frontman Anthony "Civ" Civocelli formed Civ, and drummer Sammy Siegler performed with a number of acts including Glassjaw and Nightmare of You.

IT SUCKS. The "documentary" is this bullshit 35-minute art film that doesn't explain any of the record (the making of, the motivation behind, etc) -- nothing. It just shows them on tour briefly, some American dude narrates through part of it but you NEVER find out who it is, and the real kicker -- they have the band's last show ever on tape, but they DON'T SHOW IT TO YOU. Instead, they FILM THE BAND MEMBERS WATCHING IT TO GET THEIR REACTIONS.

HEY FUCKTARDS. I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE MISUNDERSTOOD REVOLUTIONARIES. SHOW ME THE GODDAMN FOOTAGE SO I CAN JERK OFF TO YOUR AWESOME SONGS LIKE GREG GRAFFIN DOES ON HIS WEBCAM TO FAT CHICKS.

I mean, seriously. This DVD was the biggest cocktease ever. The only redeeming part is in the bonus live footage where Dennis smacks himself in the head with a mic stand and crumples to the ground like the soggy vagina he is.

In the actual documentary (which is seriously 35 minutes, I shit you not), there's really high-quality footage of the band playing three songs at some festival in Sweden, it seems like. Two of the songs are pre-Shape Of Punk To Come; the other is "New Noise."

As for the bonus footage, there's one live clip each for eight of the songs off the record, and almost all seem to be from different shows, meaning the video/sound quality varies per song. Some of them are really fucking sweet, though. I just enjoyed watching the drummer, because that dude fucking RULED. Apparently now he has such a terrible case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that he can't even lift a grocery bag. It's super sad.

Other than that, there's the music videos for "New Noise" and "Rather Be Dead," both of which have seen the light of day a million times before on a million different DVDs.

anyway, the description of the DVD got my hopes really down all of a sudden. I'm glad i didn't pre-order it. I may watch it from someone else who has it, and decide then if it's worth to have. I'll probably get it anyway eventually. Dumb music collectors do that.

I'm not defending them, but they've always been very in the dark about the bass player and why they "totally brutal gave him the foot" just before they made the shape of punk to come. The word i heard is that he doesn't want to be connected with refused anymore.

Who cares? they've always been incredibly obnoxious people who wrote pretty great songs.

start today was actually the band's first (and only) full length, not their second. the self-titled record was only an EP. yes, the re-issue has a bunch of bonus tracks, but an EP with bonus tracks is still not their first album.

As someone who lives in europe and has actually seen a bunch of hardcore bands reunited shows (and there's been waaaay to many), they aren't really that bad.

I agree, bold has always been one of my least favorites, but i'm seeing them and path of resistance this weekend and it's going to be great, because Europe is different. Kids go absolutley crazy for reunited 80/90's hardcore bands, and i'm not talking about sim stroke mosh it up, i mean absolutley crazy. I recently saw Underdog with 40 people in a 300 people room, and that was the best show i've been to in years.

I've even seen those bunch of german youth of today reunion shows theres so much talk about, and you know what? They weren't that bad, and singing along to those favorite tunes for the last time is worth any price.

Except panic, they were just embarrasing last year, well, they're not really old either.

But I get your point with the list of bands, but there's no one who said GB is the "one and defenitive hard

Huh, that's pretty interesting- thanks for adding that. I'm just talking about personal taste (so is everyone else) but it's cool to get the real life reaction to these bands from Europe. Over here there's just been limited shows so there's (even) more hype. When I went to the united in walter page I was shocked that Bold was going through eastern Europe- we used to stand outside when they were playing cause they were no good compared to other bands (like, actually, Chain of Strength).

I never went to any of the YOT reunion shows, I was afraid it'd be too cheesy. I DID see Better Than A Thousand do some YOT shows when they played SF a few years back and it was incredible!

Also, I think a lot of this is 'just cause it's old, it's gotta be gold' and I don't hear that. Shitty bands are always with us, and sometimes they're the ones who reunite, right? Of course, it's ALL personal taste, so there's no right or wrong answer. [yes there is! GB rulz! Cappo=poseur!]

P.S.- I'm with you about euro-enthusiasm: The best time I saw 7 Seconds was a packed show in Barcelona- the 600 kids were singing along so loudly they drowned out the band. It was incredible!
