The Living End sign to Adeline Records

In an email to their mailing list, Australia's The Living End announced that they have joined Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Manager Pat Magnarella's Adeline Records. The label will be releasing their album, State of Emergency in North America on July 11th in the United States and July 18th in Canada. Adeline recently joined Warner-incubator East/West Records for distribution.

Frontman Chris Cheney had this to say:

We're very pleased to have signed to Adeline Records. We feel that they respect and understand the music and the vision of what The Living End are about. We want to take State of Emergency to the rest of the world and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with them.

The band will be kicking off a North American tour in July with dates on the Warped Tour and headlining dates of their own. Emergency recently became the #1 album in the band's home country.

The album is the follow up to 2003's Modern ARTillery.

eh... i like a lot of epitaph bands, but the living end is kickass. can't say i liked modern artillery as much as roll on, but its still pretty good at times. definitely good to play THUG2 to.

Billie Joe Armstrong is more punk than anyone that post's on this board.

He fucking worked on Rancid's "Let's Go!" which is one of the best punk albums around.

Green Day is BY FAR the best pop punk band to ever come out of Cali.

Take a look at what label Green Day is on. For me, that loses all respectablilty. Not only does that make him less "punk," but it severs his ties with the underground because now a lable not at all connected with anything underground controls everything from tourmates to where they play.

he never said anything about the music he said something about his integrity. i think its cool that he has a label but i do respect him a lot less because hes on a major. again, that has nothing to do with his music, green day is one of my favorite bands.

and as for the clash...there were no independent labels back then and the only way to tour, release albums, and be a band for a long period of time was to be on a major.

point taken, but most indies work the same way as majors these days, just on a smaller scale. i'm certainly not down with judging any band because of their label. that's just weird to me.

Epitaph and Fat are distributed by major labels. Get with the picture.
There are different kinds of punk rock. I have no problem with a band being tied to a corporation if they don't take an anti-capitalistic stance, such as Green Day.
The Clash are an exception because in the end they realized that they were fucked over by CBS and in turn released a double album and a triple album for the price of one album to get back at them, after a long long fight.
Point is = Epitaph and Fat are majors. Crass = integrity, Clash = kickass music

Get YOUR facts straight. Fat is distributed by Caroline, which is a division of EMI, a major label.

Epitaph is distributed by RED, which is a division of Sony/BMG. A Major Label.

Fat isn't exclusive with anyone, but are distributed by Caroline (EMI) and RED (Sony)

Epitaph is distributed by ADA (Warner Brothers)

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with that, these distribution companies don't get to tell Fat or Epitaph what to do. They provide a valuable service to the indy labels and bands that they help distribute, leveling the playing field so tiny labels like mine can still be run out of a bedroom while making the records easily accessible to stores, and more importantly, making sure the labels and bands actually get paid for the records they sell.

The restructuring is really going for more of a Dacaydance less of a Nitro vibe from what I'm getting.
However if it supports the Living End I support it.

Adeline does mostly vinyl edition. somewhat relates to alot of the labels today doing reissues.

the vinyl edition has always been in full effect. even with major labels. in which the band themselves pay for their own cost and the label distros it. via a-f records / anti flag

maybe its due to my love of green day but i wanna see adeline make a comeback. maybe get it big enough so that it can release green day records. that would be so sweet to have green day back on an independent doing things DIY.

adeline is totally a big label....they are distributed by warner bros. They don't even try to hid there major label connections like BYO, Punkcore, and basically every other label that's covered on this site.

If you are distributed by a major label..YOU ARE NOT AN INDIE LABEL

Hey, I may not like them now but Adeline did have a shit load of really good acts such as The Fleshies, The Frisk, Agent 51, the Soviettes and The Network.
I'm stoked to see they've got some good bands in their restructuring.

Adeline is a 100% new label now. The old staff and location are gone, now it is Green Day's manager running his own little major-label subsidiary. Half the bands were dropped, all Green Day is involved with now is the clothing line.

I'm well aware. That's why I said they used to have those great bands I listed.
More than half were dropped. I think they only kept about 3 or so (The Network and The Soviettes catolog and the Green Daystuff they put out).
However, it is good to see that they still have good bands.

It's too bad that they dropped so many bands... but I think it was more because they were broken up/inactive than anything else. And like with Agent 51, Adeline was only re-releasing their last album.. they had nothing to do with the production.

Anyway. I'm excited to see the label move back into the music-sector a bit. They've been a little too clothing line-focused as of late.

woot! they repaved Williamsbridge Ave and Bronxdale. that only took like 8 years. now i don't have to worry about slamming into parked cars when trying to avoid giant fucking potholes. now paint some friggin lanes, the double parking is already ridiculous.

ok, sorry for the rant that no one gives a shit about. anyway, i like the Living End a lot, and i really like this new album. i'll be picking this up when it comes out.

I got the austrailian version of the album and it is amazing...so much higher than modern ARTillery...which was still an amazing album....woot adaline!!!
I'll be getting the US version as well...the living end are gods

I ordered the Australian version of the album a while back. Maybe I need to listen to the album more, but I wasn't really impressed the first couple of listens. It really lacked the energy of their older stuff.

Theoretically yes. However, if you look into it, most times when that does happen, there are "industry" people who manage the day-to-day running.

Also, most of the time when you look into it that kind of label is distributed by a major-owed distribution-company.

FOr the record - most of the labels covered on this site are neck deep is the shit where it comes to walking the fence between independent and major.......

This is pretty awesome news. My first show ever was Green Day and the Living End in June 2001 and it was so fucking cool. If there's a repeat of that then consider my jeans creamed.

Whoa! That's pretty cool- this really "announces" Adeline Records 2.0 more than their first signing, Jesse Malin. Since they've moved on to East/West distro, it makes sense to sign larger minor major label groups like TLE.

Anyway, I really loved "Roll On" and "s/t"- looking forward to this new one and their headlining dates...
