Tours: New Bomb Turks schedule two upcoming shows

Celebrated Columbus, OH based garage punk act the New Bomb Turks have a pair of shows scheduled. The band will appear at Boston's Abbey Lounge on August 19th with the Turpentine Brothers, Spitzz and Secret Hearts. The band will later convene in Cleveland, OH on September 5th for a date at the Beachland Ballroom with legendary early Australian punk band Radio Birdman.

The Turks embarked on what was supposedly final tour back in 2002, and have since played the sporadic shows in the US and Europe. The band released their final proper full length The Night Before the Day the Earth Stood Still in 2002, followed a year later by the rarities collection Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains.

I think I might go to that Radio Birdman show (or Rocket from the Tombs, I just can't decide)..conincidentally, I just traded my thrift store copy of "Radios Appear" for an Amdi Petersen's Arme 7". Oh well.

I could never understand what the big deal with these band is. They make some good music, but i've read some reviews of people calling them "the saviors of garage punk" or something along those lines. Maybe i have listened to the wrong album (Information Highway Revisited)?

They were too early for the grage punk revival. If At Rope's End came out at the same time as Veni Vid Vicious they would have been huge

The Night Before the Day the Earth Stood Still is one of my favourite albums of all time. It's a jazzy garage rock album unlike anything they ever did before. I highly recomend that one.
Also check out At Ropes End and Destroy! Oh Boy! and then go from there.

I want to go to that Cleveland show pretty bad. But, that would mean that I wouldn't work at all that week as the 4th is a holiday and the 6th-10th is my birthday celebration.

If anyone is thinking of traveling to Boston for this show, let me give you two works of advice:

a) DO IT. The Turks are one of the very few bands worth traveling for. Last time they played was in NYC in Feb 05. I went down. I know of at least one person who flew in from CA just for that show.

b) Get there way early. The abbey lounge is tiny. It's a great place to see a band but this is going to fill up quick.

I was lucky enough to catch the Turks years ago on the *Board as Usual* Tour with Samiam. They fucking rocked. Problem is, and has been, that those snakes that work in the music industry and control part of it have never taken this band seriously. Just glad to see they are still playing shows and stirring up shit, i.e. the back and forth comments here!

I believe these guys played at the same CBGB's New Music Seminar that propelled Guided By Voices to fame.. thats pretty cool
