Tours: Mastodon / Converge / The Bronx

Mastodon have announced the first block of dates for their upcoming headlining tour in support of their major label debut Blood Mountain. Due out September 12th. the record follows the band's acclaimed 2004 release Leviathan.

The tour comes on the heels of the band's supporting run on Slayer's Unholy Alliance Tour and will feature Converge and The Bronx as direct support.

I'd go to see the Bronx, but I think I might have to sit out Converge's set at the bar.

I have been dying to see Converge again since they blew me away last September, but the venue (the Showbox in Seattle) doesn't seem very fitting for their show.

Is Mastodon worth it?

As usual, Columbus gets fucked out of an amazing show. All grade-A bands, and I don't get to see any. How wonderful.

you can drive an hour and a half either direction(North, South) to see them. I am forced to do it all the time(Lifetime, Bronx, Loved Ones).

I know, but it just pisses me off that this almost always happens. Very few bands consistently stop in Columbus, aside from Less Than Jake and (Ugh) Breaking Benjamin.

yeah, i'm going to be out of town on th eportland date. lame.

but i will be following the larry arms tour down the coast, so i guess that's a good enough reason.

Way to schedule this show the same night as the Strike Anywhere show in Cleveland.

And I can't even believe this is at the House Of Blues. That place holds 1100 people! There's no way Mastodon will fill that up.

Mastodon is touring with slayer and supported slipknot on a good chunk of dates a while ago.

Mastodon played at the Grog Shop last year (450 capacity) with Death By Stereo and Cult Of Luna, and while it was full, it wasn't sold out. Yes, this is a stronger bill, but I still don't think it's going to get more than half full.

Mastodon will have a new video and album out all over the headbangers ball crowd though, so you gotta keep that in mind too.

I mean, converge alone can sell out 1000 capacity venues in some markets.

Strange they've played Slims (800) around here and it was pretty filled (though I don't know if it was sold out). I imagine a bill as strong as this and with their new album and the Bronx new album both being heavily hyped and on majors I could see them selling out 1,100 seats here. But they may have a stronger following in California.

Theyre playing the same place in Philly as with CoL and DBS... and it wasn't empty, but it sure wasn't full.

I expect it to be much more full this time.

The Relapse Store will hopefully do something to celebrate this glorious day.

i saw mastodon play in medford oregon at music head (maybe 50 ppl) there was probably 35 ppl in attendance, shit was crazy.

Wow! What a great tour. The best metal band around right now, one of the only "metalcore" bands that are actually really good and one of the most rocking bands since a long time. I'll probably be at the Montreal show.

Well I meant it for Converge. I would not call them metalcore, but I can't really find a way to classify their style. Hardcore with metal elements... I dunno. That's why I said "metalcore".

Why do the shows I'm interested in always seem to be at the Majestic instead of St. Andrews Hall. The sound sucks at the Majestic.

Saw Mastadon at the Blind Pig and my only complaint was the price tags on the cd's at the show.

i agree on the sound thing. if they actually had their own house sound at the majestic it would probably be fine but we always have to hire someone to bring everything in and set it up instead of it already being there and being set for the room. there is a lame garage rock show (well not totally lame, the Zombies are playing) at the hall that night hence this one ends up at the majestic. i would have rather seen it at Clutch personally. there aren't enough good shows up there anymore. everything always sounds great and i like the room a lot more
