Alkaline Trio will join the Smoking Popes for a special Chicago show at the Metro on New Year's Eve. Besides the show, which goes on sale Friday at noon, all attendees will receive a limited edition split 7-inch from both bands.
The Trio took a similar approach with a Halloween show a few years ago, and the disc, which featured the Misfit's "Children in Heat" and "Halloween" quickly became a highly sought after collector's item. Both bands have frequently sold out the venue independently, so the combined bill will likely sell out quickly. You can get tickets here. V2 (76 comments)

After reading this I immediately went over to the ticketmaster site to secure my pair of tickets for a show I was totally stoked about. Then I realized they were 66 bucks a piece. I promptly said "Fuck that," and went back to looking at porn. 3+ Replies

I understand that it's NYE but $65? I wonder how much parking will be at the Wrigleyville Hot Dog? 1+ Reply

The sad part is, if I could actually be in Chicago, I would totally pay 66 dollars to see them. Alkaline Trio is the only band I could contemplate spending that much money on. 2+ Replies

I might actually fucking make a trip to Chicago for this. Is it so expensive because Skiba's sharing his coke?
jamespastepunk (November 15, 2006)
Dude. For New Years Eve, I'm willing to shell out $66 for the Trio.
guitarmy87 (November 15, 2006)
so..... if you buy the $66 ticket, matt skiba will suck your cock.... right?

I hate to say it, but for that price it's a cheap gig in Wrigleyville on NYE. Most bars have a $75-$100 "cover" but those include all the drinks you can handle...

And I thought spending 30+ on AM!/Alk3 was pricey. PUNXXXXX 3+ Replies

kingofsuck (November 16, 2006)
Shit, I'm really tempted to make the trip to Chicago for this and shell out $70 for a ticket...
sXenester (November 16, 2006)
From where I live, it's about 16 hours or almost 1000 miles for a road trip. I'd so fucking do it. I've always wanted to go to Chicago. 5+ Replies

For those bitching about the price: Every year, the Metro does a New Years show, and the price of admission includes an open bar as well as a champagne toast at midnight (if I recall correctly). That's obviously built into the price. 5+ Replies

I think it's funny that a punk site produces so many comments about these 2 bands. 1+ Reply

Sounds like an amazing show, but I'm already gonna be in Vegas for New Years. Fuck!

The revived Popes can only draw flies in the midwest. They're just beating the cash cow as long as they can. Here's betting they last another year at most. I don't think any major labels have exactly been pounding down their proverbial door, and all they really care about is money. 2+ Replies

I think this would be awesome. Finding a date a month and a half in advance for something sounds like a disaster, though, and none of my retard friends are going to realise how sweet this is. I might just buy some tickets anyway, and talk people into going when it gets a bit closer.
Someone (November 16, 2006)

I was going to go even though this would be the priciest concert I've ever attended. But 18+! this will be the fourth time that I've missed them this year, that has to be a record.
