Of course, this isn't related to punk music, but I think it's important enough that we should talk about it. A number of issues have come up post-9/11, wherein the right-wing government of the United States is coming up with a myriad of laws to limit your civil liberties. Even the chairman of the judiciary subcomittee on the constititution seems afraid of what is happening. The Onion put it best: "It is therefore urgent," Rumsfeld continued, "that all Americans be quiet, stop asking questions, accept the orders of authorities, and let us get on with the important work of defending liberty, so that America can continue to be a beacon of freedom to all the world."

i dont recall anyone saying the entire government is right wing. the left wing of our government isnt particularly pleasing either. whoever said this is a friggin wanker. it doesnt take a degree or special skills to know about current events and social issues.

it's true, just listening to punk doesn't make you a political expert, but goddamn, it's without a doubt the best place to start. most punk rock can teach a kid about equality almost as well as Sesame Street can, and in a medium which will illicite more emotion than a bunch of puppets ever could. besides, you don't need to know everything. all you really need to know is one fundamental thing- all people are equal, regardless of the barriers put up by fascism, such as wealth, religion, and nationality. once you know this, everything else falls into place- pacifism, anarchism, and atheism (or agnosticism for some). you can learn this from any single Clash album. punk is also a community, and that's why these websites are important, to keep people informed, to help bridge gaps of distance, to unify into a single entity of like-minded individuals which can stop anyone seeking to dehuman
