Pitchfork confirmed the news today with a statement from the group's publicist. Polydor, formed in 1924 was purchased by music conglomerate Universal Music in 1998 and is best known in the United States for reissues of older material from its 1960s and 1970s catalogue.
In the UK, however, the label includes newer acts like the Kaiser Chiefs, Eminem and Gwen Stefani. According to the publicist:
Bright Eyes have been on numerous labels outside of North America over their recording history and the move to Polydor is the newest endeavor to reach as many fans as possible.
Conor Oberst and his bandmates are gearing up for the release of Cassadaga on April 10th in North America. A UK release date is expected soon.
