Streams: North Atlantic: "Scientist Girl (Acoustic from Y Rock on WXPN)

Today, we're pleased to bring you an exclusive recording of The North Atlantic performing their song "Scientist Girl" live and acoustic from Y Rock on XPN.

The band has drawn comparisons to everyone from Fugazi and Archers of Loaf to Weezer and promises "wordsmithery [...] that would make Blake Schwartzenbach [of Jawbreaker] envious. " The song comes from their terrific new album, Wires in the Walls which was released last year on WPO.

After the review I read here, I picked up this album and fucking love it. I don't think the Weezer comparisons are apt but that album is fantastic.

Funny you guys say that, seeming as how the featured track has falsetto a-whoo-oo's all over the place that totally sound Weezerish.

Or how about all the pop/rock/Motown bands from the past century that Weezer took the whoo-hoo's from.

If the only thing that makes you think of another band is background vocals, I'd hardly say that's notable sound alike.

I remembeer when Y100 was on the radio, it was the best fucking station ever know to mankind on fm and am radio. It played Operation Ivy,Minor Threat, Fugazi
The Misfits, Nofx,Pennywise and a shit load of others, their the reason I got to meet Tony Hawk at the Huck Jam and they read the letter I wrote on the air,n they skateboarding,action sports, and the x games when they were here in Philly, they were always giving away free skate shoes, skate decks, cd's before they get released,they gave me the Inside X dvd and tons and tons of cd's,stickers,patches,pins,clothes, and the Warp Tour,Y100 festival,Shows, Skate Parks, it was always a good fucking times with these guys at Y100

Y100 was the shit. Yrockonxpn is really cool too though. They play a lot more indie music but throw some mainstream rock in there too.

Y100 every day after school and listenting to it every day during the summer.

No way. 103.9 WDRE was the best rock station in Philly ever. Y100 stole a bunch of their DJ's when they went off the air, but Y100 never held a candle to WDRE.
