SIRIUS Punk Channel 29 launched

SIRIUS Satellite Radio have launched their punk channel on Channel 29. The channel was originally supposed to launch last month.

According to a listener, the channel has featured the likes of Descendents, Fugazi, Sick of it All, and the Unseen.

I dunno watching ESPN in HD is pretty sweet. Plus you can rent HD movies ondemand without leaving the house. Expensive but not really whack.

This is a long ways from happening (if at all).
According to Mel Karmizen (sp?), CEO of Sirius, they will consolidate the "duplicate" channels to get the "best" programming.

Sirius is commercial free too which is rad as crap. XM has a ton of commercials and is owned by Clear Channel.

xm fungus has no commercials, unless you count the advertising for certain shows on that particular station..for example, you will hear spots for hee haw hell, the psychobilly/cowpunk show and spots for rancid radio..no product ads like car insurance and such

Moron. The only channels that have commercials on XM are the non-exclusives. All of XM's music channels are commercial free.

have you ever actually listened to XM? Obviously not. All of XM's music channels are commercial free, they ARE NOT owned by CC, they do simulcast like 5 CC Channels, and those are the only music channels that have any commercials, and there are like 100 other channels that don't. Yep.

I agree. They seem like tools, well, at least Opie does, and they are mostly clueless about music, but the show is very entertaining and consistently funny. I've never enjoyed Howard Stern, and I also think this merger is bad news. I love my XM.

It's a payment plan. You know when things first come out they're more expensive? Well in 1986 I had to be the first to have it, even at $45,000. Being remarkably poor I'm expecting to pay it off by 2035.
The worst part is that, being old technology, it takes up 85% of my dashboard and keeps my car a toasty 95 degrees.

I've listen to some of these stations and they just aren't that good. They say punk stations but come on. They never play any G.B.H or Stiff Little Fingers or Buzzcocks or NoFX or Strung out or Against me! or Lagwagon or One Man Army or Screeching Weasel or X or Germs or Black Flag(before Henry ruined them) or anything else worth listening to. I could list lots of other shit but they just don't play it!

I think I need to just start a radio station .
Maybe this will be something different?

Today on 29 I heard NOFX (The Brews, Bob), Against Me (Cliche Guevera or however you fucking spell it), Screeching Weasel (I Hate Led Zep) and a ton more without the idiotic commentary of the loser DJs of Faction.

Have you turned on the radio lately? Unless you're lucky enough to get a relatively cool college station that has a punk show or punk programming, there is nothing to listen to for the average punk on regular radio. All of the stations that were once cool like KROQ, WFNX, WLIR/WDRE, the DC station have all been homogenized by big business no matter what anyone can argue.

We pay for any radio out there. Whether it be from having to accept the force fed crap we get. Or having to listen to commercials every 15 minutes.

I think something like this is fantastic!

And they do, do it without the millions of advertising dollars and schemes of Mainstream radio.

Anybody who says shit like "Punks shouldn't have to pay for radio" You should try getting a couple hundred thousand watt antena and a couple million bucks in equipment, and then tell people they don't have to pay for it.

I thought when the merger took place, they said that no channels would be nixed. Either way, I can't see them wanting to cancel Fungus in favor of Sirius' channel, seeing as Fungus has been around much longer and the two sound identical lineup-wise.

i own a shitload of records and this is like all of them on shuffle. i drive a lot and listen at work so it's a pain in the ass to put in a cd and commit to one band when you've heard them all a million times before before. go to the website and try it for 3 days.

i love music and gave up on regular radio for cd's years ago and only got sirius for uncensored howard stern and radio with no commercials. it's really that fucking good. i'm listening to the adicts right now.

I think up here in Canada instead of the punk station we get the "Who-24/7".

Yeah- it used to be a channel that only played the WHO, which I really liked as well. But this station is great. I love my satelite radio, well worth the monthly fee. Entertainment costs money these days whether it be CD's movies, books, magazines, cable... etc...

Free radio sucks anymore and anyone who says differently should probably seek out another website.

BTW- that list of bands that you have listed that this station supposedly did no play is now scratched out and I just heard "Suspect Device" by Stiff Little Fingers!

Yeah, I wondered why 29 said "Punk" but all I ever heard was the Who. My free trial of Sirius is up in a couple of months in my car, but I might renew it if this channel is good enough.

i'll add to that... since i've been listening to it when it aired on sunday i've heard youth brigade multiple times, chaos uk, a few GBH, a bunch of sex pistols and the clash, the jam, vibrators, exploited a bunch of times (old stuff), adolsecents, decendents, the business, 4 skins (ACAB), uk subs, circle jerks, black flag, reagan youth, stiff little fingers, blitz, buzzcocks, the damned, gang of four, subhumans, misfits, generation x, danzig, toy dolls, DRI, motorhead agnostic front etc etc etc... pretty much my whole CD collection.

lots of middle of the road kinda not so great bands like the casualties, the unseen, offspring, vandals, nofx, pennywise, screeching weasel, agent orange (yeah they went downhill towards the end).

i've only heard a few bands that make me actually change the channel like a few blink 182 songs... they're more unknown yet still c

It's a good line up for Sirius, a lot of the merger I figure is going to be based around Howard Stern. Not just because I like the guy, but because he's one of the reasons that XM wanted to merge. The rate at which Sirius sales have been going is much more than that of XM so much so that XM has prepared to not contend. The Punk channel is about the same as Fungus, the fact that there's no DJ in between is probably because it's new and they want to create more buzz about it. I image that Fungus would absorb Punk, but who knows. There is a lot of rare songs on there! It carries the title of Punk well, Faction was a joke though.

And paying for radio is not any different than paying for T.V. the rate at which people are buying satalite radio is more than the rate people bought cell phones! When cable came out people thought, who's going to pay for T.V.?

the channel is ok, they pretty much stick to a very tight heavy rotation list ,and then they slip in some head turning stuff. heres hoping that bands send their shit to sirius for airplay and thus get something going as far as 2007 and onwards. it would be sad for me to think that this punk 29 station becomes an updated version of all the stupid fm stations i had to tolerate in high school (i'm 47)!!!

This Channel is Awesome..

I love listening to it brings back memories of what Punk Rock was and should be.

Who ever is programming is doing a good job.. If you dont like it surgest your thought to their play list.

BTW Im Truck Driver and I willing to pay for a great channels and programming cuz local channels and commercial Radio sucks ass these days.
