Bad Religion finish recording "New Maps of Hell"

Bad Religion have completed work on their upcoming album. The record is the follow up to 2004's The Empire Strikes First and is titled New Maps Of Hell. It is set to arrive on July 10, 2007 via Epitaph Records. The 17 song full length album was recorded at Grand Master Studios in Los Angeles, California by Grammy-nominated producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer).

Bassist Jay Bentley made the announcement:

We are done recording. Now it's mix time. We're getting ready to play the Santa Monica show and head down to Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico for our tour... looking forward to getting back on the road...

As previously announced the band, now in their 27th year, will support the record by headlining this summer's Warped Tour. 2006 saw the release of the Live at the Palladium DVD along with frontman Greg Graffin's solo effort Cold as the Clay.

Rule of thumb: Never praise My Chemical Romance (or even mention them, for that matter) on a Bad Religion page.

"Empire" was just as bad as their previous three albums save two songs. I don't have high hopes for this one either. I do, however, expect loads of auto-toned backing vocals.

i love this band. these boys, save for a few albums in the mid 90s, have never disapointed. process of belief, empire strikes...both killer...im so psyched for this new release.

I think that the only bad Bad Religion album was "No Substance." Everything else, to include "The New America" was and still is awesome.

the new america is a fantastic record. it just isn't fast and balls to the wall angry, which shouldn't matter. it DOES stick out as being different than other BR albums, but how that makes it bad, i'll never know.

I personally don't think any BR albums are "bad"... in fact, I prefer No Substance to New America (I love My Computer? Come on!), but I do think that there are some better albums out there... No Control, Against the Grain, great albums, but people complain because the new albums aren't like them... yet, if the new albums WERE like the old ones, people would just be complaining because the band "keeps sounding the same after all these years".
Let's give the complaints a rest and just enjoy the art.

By the way, to that other guy, The Empire Strikes First was a VERY clever name for an album, so was Wolf in Wolves' Clothing.

Looking forward.......possibly the only major band that I will still purchase a record from (and by big I mean everybody and their borther knows who they are, I will also buy the new Bad Brains, who are obviously older and more influential....but you get what I mean by "commercially big")

i think if you took a poll of 100 random punk bands today, the majority would say bad brains. so no you douchebag, you're wrong. i mean, i can see how you can make a knee jerk reaction and say outright that bad religion is more influential because more bands have copped their sound than the bad brains. but than again, while nobody sounds like the bad brains (and who can?), bad brains gave hardcore it's essential element: speed, speed, and more speed. so in that respect, every fucking punk band that plays with that speed owes something to the bad brains, bad religion included. they also influenced bands across genres (funk/speed metal, thrash) and cultures which is something i'm not sure you could say about bad religion.

17 songs is unheard of for a Bad Religion release. They said it's gonna be fast and aggressive, so I don't think you have much to worry about.
