Robot Academy Films, an independent production company set up by two 22 year old Australian's are currently in production for a film on the 90's punk rock explosion titled One Nine Nine Four.
The documentary which is set to be a full length feature documents the birth, growth and explosion of punk rock in the 90's and features interviews with bands such as NOFX, the Offspring, Blink 182, Rancid, Bad Religion, Lagwagon and many more. The 2 film makers have been residing in Los Angeles since January shooting interviews and collecting archival footage before returning to Australia this month to start editing. The film will be narrated by Tony Hawk and is yet to have distribution or a release date but will hit the festival circuit in 2008. A very rough teaser trailer featuring Fat Mike, Green Day, Rancid, Scott Russo is available online. Movies and Documentaries (301 comments)

Blink is probably my favorite band from the late 90's, however I don't think they should be in this documentary. 4+ Replies

Righteous. I'll definitely check this out. I'm kinda tired of watching middle aged art nerds talk about how great Minor Threat was anyway. 5+ Replies

Who's that idiot at the end? To say Green Day did to Nirvana what Nirvana did to hair metal is rediculous. Nirvana was the very reason Green Day was able to go mainstream. Green Day's success wasn't a response to Nirvana, it was just the next logical step. 15+ Replies

Fuck, I remember seeing Green Day at Lollapalooza 94 and opening the whole show on the mainstage @ about 2pm with Beastie Boys and Smashing Pumpkins headlining the night @ like 9 or 10.....on that summer day, i would have never guessed they would have had such an impact on rock music and the course it took afterward, nor become the band that they are.....I'm glad I was there 4+ Replies

Probably the most unnecessary movie about punk ever produced. Who really cares? We all know what happened and The Year Punk Broke is probably far more comprehensive than this only because they seem to focus only on Epitaph, Fat, Warped Tour and Green Day. 7+ Replies

This is awesome that 90's punk--a crucial stage in its evolution--is finally getting more coverage without Nirvana stealing the theme.

this was my favourite "punk era," and as much as i cannot stand blink 182, they were pretty much the band that got me into punk music.

I would like to say everyone is so into bashing bands such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains....but they were great bands too.

Finally! This is by far my favourite "era" of punk. The 90s are by far the most underrated decade in music.
Someone (April 3, 2007)
hopefully they'll put in screeching weasel, NUFAN, the vandals, strung out, etc..you get the picture
Someone (April 3, 2007)
weezer should be in the punk video? yes. cause when they started i saw them a in-store punk show at a sam goody. i thought it was pretty punk how they had muppets at the playboys mansion but they're like broke and nerdy. i wonder why he has to drive a crappy car, you'd they'd be able to have some money by now.
Someone (April 3, 2007)
Hey, where is the freakin` Swingin` Utters. Most underrated band of all time I swear! 1+ Reply

Did you ever read MRR or really any fanzine from the early-mid nineties? I'm not saying it's the "right" way to think, but most of the people involved with punk at that time went out of their way to distance themselves from post Bleach Nirvana. And Alice in Chains and their ilk was looked on with distain by the punks. That shit was for the "edgier" jocks and potheads. 3+ Replies

blink should be on here because they are the gateway drug for many into this genre, i have multiple buddies who started by listening to blink and now are quite well rounded in their taste in music | Features
