I read an article in Maclean's that Project Red has yet to make any money for charity.

I read somewhere (sorry to be so vague, can't remember where) that the advertising for the RED campaign cost about 10x as the profits generated for charity. Whoops.

Also, shouldn't these shoes be red? Having one eyelet be red just looks goofy.

The think that erks me about the Project (Red) charity is that companies make these products and sell them, mostly likely with the cost of the donation built in to the price. Then, they donate part of that sale to charity. They make the money off the sale and get that tax write off for the charity. You get a pair of shitty sneakers. Don't get me wrong it's a good cause but it'd be better just to donate money directly. People who think companies are doing this for anything more than good PR and a tax write off a suckers.

I actually like these shoes... I'm not sure it's really necessairly to have them "pre-beat-up" though, as they usually end up looking like that about a week after you first wear them anyway.

I love the Ramones, but fuck the god damn shit out of Bono and this campaign. He's spent more advertising it than it's made, and it's like 10 percent of each purchase that goes to the charity? It's just a way to make more money for everybody because of the positive incentive that giving to a cause brings, nevermind that you could give the money for your 300 dollar cell phone straight to the charity. Real great guy that one. Even better's how he's moving his publishing company out of Ireland to avoid taxes now that an exemption for musicians is running out.

I read that while project(red)'s affiliates have spent over 100 Million dollars on the ad campaign, they have only raised 2 million dollars for the actual charity. Anyone else see a problem with this?
