I don't usually post rants because I feel it cheapens the "news" aspect of this site... so I will post very little about this. Alternative Tentacles brought my attention to it, I'll let it speak for itself: (from TOPPS trading cards website:)

I still have like 4 different sets of Desert Storm cards, and 2 of them are complete [I think]. I should go pull them out of my closet and throw 'em up on eBay. -Scott

Osamas' rookie card is hard to find these days. They went out of print because the Government doesn't want the public to find out that Bin Laden used to play on team 'CIA' back in the 1970's. I must say that our boys did a great job in training him. icK-x-Strife

Its spelled My Lai. I actually just finished a report on that. 400 innocent unarmed civilians, killed, not just from gun shots, but some were beaten to death, had their throats cut, gernades threw in their houses, and women were raped. gotta love the US military...

i don't really care about topps trying to sell cards about army, there are alot more important things out there. but what really bugs me is that topps doesn't make a card for every major league player anymore. their sets used to be over 700 cards and every player had one, now they are like 450 or something like that which means back up outfielders like brian hunter or middle relievers like chuck mcelroy (yes he still plays) don't get cards. it sucks alot. i haven't bought baseball cards in over ten years but this is just wrong. the kids today are being deprived of something that generations have enjoyed and the players are getting cheated out of their dreams. imagine the thrill guys like joe orsalak, paul abbot, or william pennyfeather got out of having their own baseball cards. sure they had brief and forgetable careers but they have the cards. do you think anyone is gonna bel

Not to mention the anonymous players that have breakthrough seasons. Just think of all the kids who could say "I have his rookie card!" What a shame. Also, without mediocre players, what will our future soldiers use for target practice? If you ask me, Topps is not looking out for the interests of our country.

The worst thing about this whole 'War Trading Cards' concept is that it teaches kids war is something "cool" by glorifying tanks, stealth fighters and Special Ops troops. Yes, that B-2 Bomber and that F-16 might look pretty 'bitchin' being shown taking off an aircraft carrier on CNN, but the fact is that they are machines designed to kill. Everyone I see acts as if this "war" is some sort of video game. They sit in the comfort of their homes, watching NBC on the wide-screen TV, all the while failing to realize that *real* humans are being killed in their name. While I don't know exactly what these cards have on them, I do know what they will not. They will not have pictures of starving Afghans. They will not have accounts of people who lost their family to a stray cruise missle. They definately don't have the statistics of how many Afghan women were raped by North Alliance

will there be a card with the pakistani foreign minister being told by a US official in june or july that the US would go ahead with military strikes by November? a special "We protect freedom by eliminating and undermining it every chance we get" hologram card?

A- F-16's and B-2's are Air Force planes and do not ake off from carrieers. B- Bin Laden publically admitted to the attacks. C- who cares if he admited to it. he is a pawn. We (the US) knew what was going to happen and did nothing about it. D- The Bush family has been backing terrorists and dictators since Adolf Hitler ( Look into W's grandpa and his actions during the thirties).

I think its fucking bullshit how a bunch of you talk shit about this country. Nobody is keeping you locked up here. If you dont like the way things are in America then fucking leave. Don't sit here during a war effort and be unpatriotic though. I have no respect for any of you who mooch off of this country's freedoms, but when push comes to shove dont want to defend them.

And quite frankly, I'm sure many of us don't have much respect for your type who fail to see the bigger picture. What is the purpose of the state? Is it to push an agenda that does not echo the citizens within its borders? Even if the state's agenda is supported by the majority, is it ethical for the state to go ahead with its plan if the people have been fed only carefully crafted half-truths? 90% of the United States' 'free citizens' seem to believe so. I'm sorry, but I will never endorse that, and I refuse to take part in the mentality of the mob. I invite anyone to explain how patriotism and nationalism can benefit humankind when it's rammed down our throats and expected to be swallowed without question. History has shown this to be *very* dangerous, but the fervor of the people seems to all-too-often cloud that.

what happened to trading baseball cards, pokemon cards or whatever they are into? it's better than war trading cards. let them be kids, they don't need to know how shitty this world can be. it's supposed to be a great fantasy place for them. someone will wake them up and they'll see the real world when they need to. they don't know what war is all about. but who does. stick with baseball cards, they shouldn't be exposed to war and hate, it's just wrong.
