PETA2 recruits Rise Against, Thursday, Silverstein for anti-KFC video

PETA2 has recruited a number of bands for a new campaign targeting notorious fast food establishment KFC. The organization tapped Rise Against, Thursday, Silverstein, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, The Sleeping, Story of the Year and Hawthorne Heights for the new PSA and notes:

Chickens raised and killed for KFC endure the worst abuses imaginable-their bones are often broken, their throats are slit while they're still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. Workers at a KFC "Supplier of the Year" were documented punching live birds, spitting tobacco into their eyes, and spray-painting their faces

Though both are vegans, Tim and Joe from Rise Against note that the campaign is not asking people to stop eating meat, but primarily aiming to draw attention to animal welfare issues.

b) Ordering a veggie burger at Burger King is like ordering a chicken strip salad. It's just as bad but it SEEMS better. Those veggie burgers are cooked on the same grill as the Whoppers. When it's cooked in the grease of the beef from the cows whose slaughter you're protesting, do you really win?

First of all, punching yourself is really hard to do. The physics make it quite difficult to get a solid blow in (that's not even including the mental block if hitting yourself).

that has to be the most depressing film ever. i know people that can't even watch it. i barely could at times. Good documentary though. The extreme ways in which animals are handled from the food, pet, and clothing industries in inhumane and callous.

it's hard to find this film, you can buy it through peta or watch it in segments on youtube. i recommend that people see it. maybe it will open some people's minds to what happens in those industries. I have a friend who once told me those peta videos are staged and none of that happens. form your own opinion, but at least know the facts.

Get off your high horse for a second, let's have an honest discussion. I'm an ex-veg. I'm not going to spout off vegan propaganda, nor am I going to spout off equally retarded "omg meat lolz" propaganda.

FACTS:
1. It is possible to eat a healthy diet without meat. (Without any animal products, I'm not so sure about. I'd have to hear it from a real nutritionist, not PETA or ALF)
2. Many animals, especially those in factory farms, live and die in incredibly inhumane conditions.
3. Many people are overweight and obese because of an abundance of fatty meats, cheeses, and other animal products in their diets.

REALITIES:
1. It is very difficult to eat a healthy diet without meat. Don't tell me it is easy, I was a veg for over two years. It's not. I was sick far more often than before, constantly tired, and lost a lot of muscle mass, eve

It's easy for me to live on a healthy veg diet. I've been a vegetarian for 8 years and I have gotten much healthier. I used to be sick all the time when I was younger, but since I've started I've only been sick a handful of times. I've also had a quite surprising and dramatic change of perspective on life and peace because of the experience. I would recommend it to anyone, no matter how much they love meat.

to add to that, i had to really look at my diet, when i first became a vegetarian i figured i could just eat fake chicken, garden burgers and cereal. wrong. i know many vegetarians who do that. i incorporate a lot of fruit and vegetables with fiber and grains into my diet now and it makes a huge difference. just saying. and my groceries are no more expensive than when they were when i ate meat products.

That's just ridiculous. It is pretty easy to be a vegetarian. I've been one for 13 years. In college I was a 6'4", 220 pound Division I athlete. I've thrown up twice from being sick in the last ten years (not counting booze, of course) and have been to the doctor twice in the last ten years (strep throat and a lung infection and just needed antibiotics). People who say it can't be done are not doing it right.

That being said I do not and have not supported KFC for a long time now and not because a few bands told me not too but because my health is wat more important to me than anything else. and last i checked, they didn't mind. animals shouldn't be treated humanely....they're not human! ever watch nature programs? there's snake venoms that paralyze animals and they suffocate to death paralyzed. there's other animals like various large felines that just rip apart animals alive....which is pretty much the same thing as slicing throats while the chickens are still conscious.

One point that people never want to talk about in all of this is the labor involved. It's extremely dangerous work, and most of the workers are undocumented and working for minimum wage or less. Slaughterhouses are one of the worst examples of capitalism around. They are notorious for bad pay (for the most part, some are union), bad conditions, and bad treatment. Not only that but Tyson foods is so big ( 80% percent of the market) that there is no way the FDA can police it to make sure the food is processed in a hygenic way. Take for example that when Upton Sinclair wrote "The Jungle" there were four processing companies that held 40% of the market share. I became a vegan for these reasons more than for the animals, but that still entered into it. I just wish that the labor conditions were discussed as well.

Most people believe that the working conditions of slaughter houses aren't that bad and have improved greatly since that period. Also, what sources have you used to tell you it is 'mostly' untrue? I hate the hypocrisy within the whole animal rights scene - how many of those people are petitioning causes regarding human welfare issues? how many of those people are even aware of their governments foreign policy? how many contribute to charities helping with issues such as aids and famine in the third world? in my experience...not many. You just cant put the value of an animal as high as the value of a human life, thats dumb.

I would have to agree with you on this. I am a vegan and give money to multiple humane societys as well as groups that lobby against animal testing, but I also support human rights and labor rights groups as well. It's no different than friends of mine that agree with me politically and acknowledge the fact that animals are mistreated, but don't do anything about it. They are willing participants.

It's not the matter that there is animal cruelty involved we should just stop eating meat because its inefficient. Think about all of the shit and money that we could eat and use that they waste feeding these stupid animals. They should free these stupid birds and leave them out in the wild...to die. Then we can play kickball with their asses and they won't be guarded behind some farmhouse gates.
