Against Me to release limited 7" with album pre-order

In preparation for the release of their Sire Records debut, Against Me! have announced plans to release a limited edition 7" with pre-orders at select retailers. The 7" will include the album track "Thrash Unreal", along with an unreleased b-side, "You Must Be Willing". The pre-order special is available at both Interpunk and Smartpunk.

New Wave hits stores July 10th.

this is a ridiculously uninformed statement. a hard working band can make plenty of money regardless of if the are on a record label or not. furthermore a band can own their copyrights as long as they sign to the right label at the right time. the bands that get screwed are bands that aren't good anyway, and jump at the first label offer they get instead of touring to build up a fan base and a negotiating position.

Agreed. A band can own the copyright to their own music and choose what label to license it to.

I think if people actually knew how much time, effort, and money went into releasing a record they would think twice about downloading it. Or maybe they don't really care and stealing is just part of the "me generation".

Saw these guys last night with The Draft.

It was the most amazing night of my life. They played everything I wanted to hear, and even encored with Disco Before the Breakdown for fucks sake.

It was one of the most genuine, amazing performances I've ever seen from a live band. I'm still grinning from ear to ear when I think about it today.

They played two songs off the new album that i hadn't heard, and I loved them both.

Fuck Against Me! haters. The new album will be good, and I don't care what fucking label it's released on, they are an inspiring band to watch live. Absolutely perfect.

They also played for over an hour. They're a band who genuinely loves what they're doing.

and you realize by vinyl sales being up that a vinyl release ships 2k instead of 1800 pieces. The same release on a CD would ship over 10k. Comparing apples to oranges.

Umm, an industry magazine I read recently said that vinyl sales are up 300% from last year and cd sales are down another 20% from last year. Major are pressing vinyl again because it is becoming the only way to make money off of record sales. People that like music and want a physical copy opt for vinyl over cd. They are also starting programs where buying vinyl gets you a code for a free download version of the record.

Also, I doubt this record will leak, and if it does leak it wont be soon. It is being kept on a very tight leash. From what I understand you have to submit a written request to Warner in order to get a pre-release copy. They are trying to be able to hold some individual responsible if it does leak. All that being said, records do tend to leak...

you miss the big picture, CHILD. You are throwing out statistics and not using raw numbers. On a release that ships 10k in cds, you are lucky to ship 1-2k in vinyl max. Please don't talk about vinyl being a "smart move" when it is being used as a promotional tool and making little to no money for the band.

And Saddle Creek has been doing the free download version with their vinyl purchases for a long time.

WTF are you talking about? What does the amount of vinyl copies that would be shipped have to do with them including a 7" with the CD? I said it was a smart move because it increases the likelyhood the album will be bought and vinyl is a hotter commodity now than CD's.

FYI, no one cares if you work for a label.

you don't need actual numbers to know that CD sales are rapidly declining.
you don't need actual number number to know that a 300% increase is significant.

the point is that cds are dying, vinyl is coming back, and that major labels (the slow moving dinosaurs that they are) are recognizing the fact and reacting. the same applies to the free download. it doesn't matter that saddle creek has been doing it forever, it matter that major's are buying in.

furthermore, is it the label's job to make the band money, or to make themselves money? traditionally a band makes money playing live shows and selling t shirts, and the label makes money selling cds,which in turn get people to show up at shows and buy tees. it is a good idea if it sells more records, and enables the band to continue being a band.

Does anyone care what anyone else thinks about this band? All I know is that their "business" practices and views of punk/music are not something I want to support, so I wont pay money for this new album. i'll download it and probably not particularly enjoy it.

i want to maintain that every step of this bands career they have agonized over the decision and eventually made the move that they felt was best for that band and their fans. It's not really their fault that so many people liked them that they had to stop playing basements. The crowds coming to see them were getting so big that it was unsafe for them and for the audience to continue playing those spaces. Who would have been happy if they kept playing basements and the crowds got big that you couldn't get in the door? The same principle applies over and over again. To get the music to the people that want to hear it they have had to keep moving to bigger and bigger labels and venues.

Touring with Gaslight Anthem in August. I know Against Me is technically the headliner, but as far as I'm concerned, they're there to support Gaslight Anthem.

i know the gaslight boys are stoked about these dates, and i am happy for them. its gonna be a great show. i still think that right now against me has a better live show then the gaslight anthem though. that could change.
