So I'm too tired to make a witty comment or tell an interesting story, but I caught Michigan's pop-punkers The Swellersa couple of weeks ago at small art studio show in the small mountain town of Staunton, VA. The band just finished a lengthy tour in support of their recent release, My Everest.

Holy shit. You read my mind. Much the Same were amazing (I still listen to "Quitters Never Win" all the time), and this band is very similar. The Swellers have a better guitarist, though. No doubt.

Nothing against The Swellers, I fucking love those guys. But they did not fill any Much the Same void. Much the Same are INCREDIBLE. I've never had a CD, or CD's for that matter, to grow on me that much. I wish they would come back.

i love when people try to look smart and fail. first off there's no quotation mark in we're. secondly, if you're going to criticize someone else's GRAMMAR, which is the correct spelling, learn how to spell first. it helps avoid making you look like the idiot.

Whatever happened to their funky Asian bassist?

Was he ever in Bensin or was he kicked out when they switched over from ska-punk to keyboard power pop?

I bet it was sort of like when Les Claypool tried out for Metallica, though I suspect it was more like Dave Mustaine.

Okay... I have a question that has been bugging me. Bear in mind that I recently ordered their new CD (My Everest), but haven't gotten it in yet.

At one point, is the singer saying:
a) "I'm leaving... GONE" or b) "I'm leaving... GOD"

A few friends of mine were driving around jamming to this song, and we were all saying different things at that point. It was awkward, kind of like singing punk songs with your friends in a car.

I'm still undecided if My Everest is the top album of 2007. The only other album that comes close to it this year is Gaslight Anthem's Sink or Swim.

1 or 2. Sweller or Gaslight
3. Nothington
4. Bad Religion
5. Comeback Kid

Yeah those were the top 5 that came to my head but Chuck Ragan and The Copyrights are up there too. But we all know that the new Paint It Black will be by the best album of the year when it comes out.

Definitely my favorite non-hip-hop album of '07 thus far. Saw them live for the first time last weekend, fucking awesome. My only bitch was that they didn't play "What's At Stake", but then again Jon's leg was about to fall off so I can't blame then for playing slower songs like "Run" instead.

#1 reason why The Swellers are awesome to me:

They don't wear makeup. Nothing worse than a bunch of dudes with makeup and tight pants trying to take themselves seriously.

I hope music heads more in this direction and quickly.

Popular music has gotten way too grandiose and pretentious.

Skoots is definitely sick, but I feel like I can't call it my favorite single song of theirs because the acoustic song before it definitely sets it up amazingly and I can't even listen to the songs individually. I honestly can't pick a favorite Swellers song...
