I found an interesting piece of news today that I thought might interest some of you. Apparently, the US is now imposing economic sanctions against the Ukraine for failing to enforce strict copyright laws. On the flip side, the same US government has given full trade status to China. While Chinese government openly hunts, tortures, and kills people for belonging to a religion that isn't sanctioned by the government or coming anywhere near defying the government's will, the Ukraine simply isn't enforcing laws against copying DVDs and music CDs. I thought murdering thousands was something the US was against? How silly of me.

Hey Aubin one quick question, I'm not sure about this, where do you live, in the US? 3+ Replies

don't forget China's brutal occupation of Tibet, intimidation of Taiwan, subjugation of Muslims in Xinjiang and Mongols in Inner Mongolia. not to mention that fun little ditty we call Tiananmen Square 1989 and other lesser known persecution of political activists. but I guess that's fine and dandy. 3+ Replies

Copyright violation itself also runs rampant in China. Pirated cds and movies etc. are just as prevalent there as anywhere else in the non-Western world. This is obviously a case of our government choosing its battles, no further explanation needed. By the by, even if the Ukranian government started enforcing copyright law, US corporations probably would not see a large profit increase, as I would imagine few Ukranians have $15 US to drop on a record or whatever(not to suggest that I know jack fuck about the Ukraine). I do know that these pirated cds cost like $2-3. 1+ Reply

You know, it's stuff like this that really makes you wonder,. . .where is the pizza that I ordered over an hour ago? Man the U.S. sucks. Wow, we're all so naive thinking about this shit. Give it a break, man. There are worse things to worry about. 2+ Replies

i think its fairly obvious there's more to this than ripping off a couple of cds. how often does the government tell us everything that's going on in a given situation? there's always much more going on than meets the eye, so i dont see what makes so many people so sure of their opinions of what really is going on. | Features
