Obviously, he does not need money. So, why would he want to spend one to two years of his life in close quarters with people he does not want to be around, playing songs that are over twenty years old?

He'd prefer not to taint someone that he did that he still feels proud of. And wants to go out and play the new music that he's writing (that some people still seem to really like, regardless of Smiths fans who have turned on him).

I mean, I could make a lot more money taking some horrible analyst's job at a bank, but I'd prefer to do things that I feel good about. You only live once and it's a short life, especially when you've already dealt with a lot of shit like he has.

Yeah I bet a story that was just confirmed by Morrissey's publicist couldn't have gone out on a general newswire that couldn't have included one of the largest underground news sites in the recipients list. It's just unbelievable that a publicist would attempt to do something to gain publicity for their artist.
Therefore it must have been lifted from a submission from a random kid who heard the story first hand from Morrissey himself and Aubin is taking all the credit.

Working with people in publicity and PR you learn that press releases get cannibalized all the time and they never get credit.

It may happen all the time, but it's still a journalistic faux pas and is technically plagiarism. You will never see entire sentences copied from a press release (and we're actually talking about an article here, not a release, but I'll play devil's advocate) in even the most half-assed publication without at least some attempt to frame it properly. You can paraphrase, you can quote, and you can cite directly to avoid this, none of which were done here.

I just feel obligated to occasionally point out that this is a gossip site, not a news site. News = journalism. And this shit ain't.

If the orignal Smiths reunited and toured, it would be a cashcow like no other. The Smiths were so wildly influential, it would easily be a sellout tour. Yes there are other people who have taken similar offers but the lack of sacrifice, effort or any sort of giving of oneself in this action does not make it special. Yes Robert DeNiro has done a lot of dumb things for money but would turning down a role seem special? No.

There's a difference between DeNiro turning down a new role and Morrissey avoiding the reunion of an established and reputable band such as the Smiths. This has been an ongoing thing that is of interest to a lot of people around here. I thought it was an interesting, albeit very brief article. I just don't see what point he's trying to make. He claimed the story wasn't noteworthy. I think it is.

I think I could only count his good movies on one hand (in the last 15 years).

DeNiro also falls into this category. Showtime! Hide and Seek! Godsend! What horrible horrible movies.

All I am saying is that tons of rich people do lame things in order to make more money. In this day and age it actually IS pretty special to turn down 75 million when you already have millions.

all i was saying was, if morrissey wanted, he could do the tour and give the money to the charity, of course in doing so, he would have to give money as taxes to the government which will be used to fund all of your favorite socialist programs. This guy i responded to basically said, "it cant be done because mz would be taxed for it" which makes absolutely no fucking sense

I think it's incredibly arrogant that people think he should give up two years of his life in order to make money for charity.

Morrissey seems to bring out the worst in some people. Some very bigotted responses here. Any other artist and people would be patting him on the back. Somehow giving credit to the man really sticks in people's throats, no matter what he does.

The man has integrity. Deal with it.

1) almost every band is dysfunctional so that's not something new to great music.
2) the tickets would be what they are for every big band that gets back--so who cares
3) morrissey's solo work is good but the smiths were great.

reunions are good if there's drama--police-van halen-pixies-husker du?-pil?---these types of reunions or possible reunions are fun and add to the drama of music and the testing of boundaries.
