Could you turn down a whopping $75 million for to reunite your influential band? Well, whether for love or money, Morrissey has reportedly done just that. Morrissey's publicist has confirmed the artist refused a $75 million offer to tour under the Smiths name in 2008 and/or 2009, with the only mandate being that Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr would be part of the band. The Smiths also declined a multi-million dollar offer to perform in recent years at the Coachella Valley

i don't see how the smiths could bring in enough money from a tour to actually earn 75 million after expenses. just doesn't seem possible. 5+ Replies

who has $75 million to shell out for this chump is the more perplexing question.

I wish this would happen. The Smiths rule, but I think Morrissey's solo stuff is kind of lame. Fuck, for 75 million though, he should just do it and donate the money to some animal charity.
Someone (August 23, 2007)
maybe he just didn't want to fucking do it.

not enough money in the world to stick him and Marr in the same room together... 4+ Replies

the smiths are the only thing good this chump will ever do. marr is the reason moz solo sucks more every year. without marr the moz is washed up. 3+ Replies

Johnny Marr has got to be harshed out by this. If I found out someone refused 75 million bucks so they could avoid playing some music with me, I would probably... start showering more often. Maybe get my teeth whitened? HOW DO YOU ACCOUNT FOR THAT? Jesus H. Christ. 3+ Replies

That's retarded, ticket prices would be through the roof. I love the Smiths, but I would not go see them.

heey, i need some suggestions.. i'm making a mix cd for a guy I work with who's into stuff like korn/dope/etc. but doesn't really know about "underground" stuff. he said he didn't want stuff with too much screaming or growling and he's familiar with older metal, so far I have shai hulud, DEP, at the gates, shadows fall, the haunted, mastodon, etc. anything else that anyone can recommend? 7+ Replies

I can fart into a mic for $75 million and give you the same effect as a Smiths reunion. For real. 2+ Replies

I saw the Smiths in Pittsburgh on the Queen Is Dead tour back in the day. There was a massive stage invasion, and the band kept playing through it until something like 70 kids onstage made it impossible to continue. 2+ Replies

I'm surprised by all the criticism Morrissey has received for this by the orgers. Had he accepted the offer, he would be largely touted as a sellout. He's an idiot for turning down money he doesn't need to reform a band with people he doesn't like to put on a performance that will be subpar and hurt everyone's reputation? Everyone is suggesting that the "intelligent" way to go is to "do it for the money"? Why guys, you're all sounding like hypocrites. It just goes to show that people in punk communities just like to complain. You'd be pretty fucking lost if we lived in a perfect world, wouldn't you? 2+ Replies

The real question is, how much to get him to stop performing altogether?
ThoughtRiotAF578 (August 24, 2007)
everyone here is saying shit like thats so punk rock, but really, its just an asshole thing to do. if this guy wasnt such an asshole, he would suck it up and tour with someone he doesnt like, give the fans a really good time, make a shit load of money for some charity, and hes too fucking stubborn to do it. granted, i think the smiths are an awful excuse for a band, so i dont give a shit anyways, but seriously, what a prick. 3+ Replies

Well guys, everyone here is saying he should just do the tour and give the proceeds to charity. What you don't realize is that our government doesn't allow for that. If the tour was set up as promoters as a charity tour, it would be fine. But if the Moz himself is paid, and he decides to give it to charity, he would have to note it on his taxes anyway, and he'd still have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to the government. So really, the whole "give it to charity" thing isn't plausible, and would cause Morrissey to actually lose money. 4+ Replies
