Tours: The Misfits

The Misfits are headed out on a 30th anniversary tour of the US (and Toronto) following their current dates in the UK. As previously reported the band is touring there alongside the Briefs. The anniversary tour kicks off on October 12th in Springfield, VA.

The present day Misfits are are of course centered around bassist Jerry Only backed by former Black Flag members Dez Cadena and Robo.

does marky ramone still play with them? i always thought it was rediculous that they toured under the "Misfits" moniker when they had Black Flag and the Ramones attached to them. why not just tour as a a punk rock super group and play songs from all 3 bands.

Well he could always have his own band and NOT call it the Misfits. Sure not as many people would be interested but at least it would be respectable.

I seriously never understood how he could be the sole person to bear the Misfits name.

also, why would any punk/indie/alternative/metal/ whatever type band ever play BB Kings or Nokia? If you need something that big play Roseland, otherwise stick to Irving Plaza or Bowery Ballroom

BB Kings ans Nokia are probably the best 1000+ capacity venues in NYC. Irving Plaza is a clear channel venue (yes some bands do care aboutt hat) and its sound has deteriorated over the years.

I'm sure the Fakefits don't really care about a venue being a Clear Channel (Live Nation) venue, especially since they'll take a gig anywhere as long as they get huge guarantee. Plus, they do House of Blues shows anyways, which is a CC(Live Nation) venue chain now.

It's kind of like seeing a really cool cover band. While it doesn't sound like any of the classic Misfits lineups, it's still fun to see. They'll probably throw in a handful of Black Flag songs too. Besides, The Briefs are opening so you know you're at least seeing one good band.

I think I watched them at one Warped Tour back when they had Marky in the band... it was probably in 2001.

I don't remember it being anything you could take seriously at all, but it was sort of worth it on a "Oh there's Marky Ramone, huh. That's pretty cool, I guess" level.

It kind of made more sense when Danzig wouldn't let them use the Misfits name, they had to come up with something different. Wasn't Kryst the Conquerer a Doyle or Jerry band that did sort of the same thing or was that an entirely different band? I'm old, I'm possibly confused. What's my name?

seriously though, ive been in plenty of bands that were decent in certain areas but shitty in other obvious ways but never got anywhere because we couldnt bring ourselves to kick out a friend. if you want your hard work to potentially "pay off" more then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Oh god. I grew up in Springfield, VA, and the reason the Misfits play there instead of DC is cause no one in DC will book them. Jaxx is a shitty, shitty venue anyway. Just a bunch of pathetic, long-haired arrogant dudes who think that they know what rock music is because they book Vanilla Ice and Wang Chung whenever they swing through town.

Whenever the Misfits play there, driving by the club you can see a bunch of little shit scene fucks who probably just walked over from West Springfield High (after putting on their garish eye makeup in the bathroom, natch) to smoke cigarettes and act cool.

Fuck Jaxx, fuck the fake Misfits, and fuck anyone who supports either.

yeah my friends band has played at Jaxx a few times and each time has been worse than the last in terms of how much of a peice of shit it is as well as the people who run it. not to mention the fact that they charge fucking $5 for a beer that you can only drink in the designated drinking area? yeah your description is spot on though. the only thing Jaxx has going for it is Anna the hot bartender.

If you go to this show expecting to see Jerry Only, Dez, and Robo play some great tunes, you'll have a great time.

If you go expecting to see "The Misfits" you won't.

I'd suggest going if only to hear Dez sing some Black Flag tunes.

Is it wrong that I really want to go to this? I love the (old) Misfits and want to sing a bunch of Misfits songs with other people.

However, I will be in Cleveland less a week before, and considering that I am going to see The Falcon/Larry Arms in Cleveland too, that'll be a lot of money for gas.

Hmmmm, the US cities are pretty scarce. I'm a little intrigued, but Ventura is 5 fucking hours away! So, I guess I won't be seeing them. I wish I would have seen the original line-up when I was like 16 or 17. I've never seen them. I guess we thought they would be around for awhile back then (with Danzig).

I agree with the commenters above that at this point they should just scrap the 'Misfits' name and come up with something relating to a 'super punk' name and play both BF and Misfits songs. To me, the 'Misfits' has always for the most part been associated with Danzig anyway. Although I didn't mind the Graves era and listen to it once in a while.

Are they still doing the long devil-lock hair look I wonder? Would be kinda comical to see them like that again.

saw 'em play in toronto a few years back..the 3tards, rehab for quitters and agent orange opened..and the line-up didnt have robo, but marky ramone..so it was awesome..they played misfits, black flag and ramones tunes..and you know what? while it wasn't danzig on vox, the band was tight, and i had a great time.

I love the originial Misfits and like to see the "Misfits(2)" version just to hear the old songs.

The Misfits name has really been dragged through the mud with this reinvention of itself without Glenn, I know he really fought it but at this point, he could make things better by playing with the band!

What's going on with Glenn these days anyway? Has Danzig broke-up? I heard a few times that Danzig was supposed to tour, then didn't.

I bought a newer (2004 or 2005?) Danzig CD about 6 months ago for $1 at a Tower Records closing sale. I figured what the hell. It sounded like a bad Marilyn Mansion meets Rob Zombie meets Black Label Society. On the way home I listened to about a minute into each song - and flung the god damned CD out my window like a friggin frisbee onto Highway 101!

Okay...
First Off, I caught the misfits not long ago when they had marky, and it was probably one of the most intense shows I've ever been to. Literally the ENTIRE crowd erupted into a pit as soon as they started Hybrid Moments....
Secondly, Danzig's music itself sucks, can we agree on that?? and have you actually heard him live??? It's the most miserable thing I've ever heard. They have a live album, go pick it up and Jerry Only will sound like fuckin pavarotti next to Danzig.
Don't knock the "misfakes" until you've seen them live and have a valid point to make about them, other than "ugh, misfits without danzig sucks" it's been 20 years, get over it...
