Against Me! to host acoustic benefit for Harvest of Hope

Against Me! will be hosting a special benefit for Harvest of Hope in Chicago during their upcoming tour. The venue is promising an acoustic performance and the openers, including Sage Francis, Cobra Skulls and World/Inferno Friendship Society will also be performing.

According to the Harvest of Hope website, the charity provides migrant farmworkers and their families with emergency aid, gives grants to families, provides financial aid to migrant students attending college and works with other agencies that benefit migrant workers. This is presumably not the same charity as the Christian missionary, also called Harvest of Hope.

Tickets will go on-sale tomorrow afternoon.

i saw against me two days ago in boulder, an it was a good rock show.

i was a little dissappointed that none of the guys in the band bothered talking to anyone other than to mention that "there's a lot of people gonna go home with one shoe tonight..."

the music was great, but it totally felt disconnected. matt and kim=much better stage presence and interaction than am, for sure.

One of the things I like about Against Me is that they don't tend to talk much between songs, instead just barreling into one song after another. I especially like how they extend the intros of their songs (like Americans Abroad and Don't Lose Touch) while they take a water break.

Between-song banter and stage presence are two very different things, though, and every time I've seen AM they have LOADS of stage presence.

I grew up in Boulder and I've been to the Boulder Theatre, though, so I could see that it might not be the best venue to see AM in. It's too big and airy.

you're right, stage presence they had, while stage banter, they did not.

i'm loathe to mention how i'm not that into "new wave", but i'm just not. i tried. i really did. even my girlfriend, who had never heard them before, mentioned after the show that it seemed like there were two different sets, and after more discussion, i realized she was tallking about the difference between the new record and the older stuff. i think the crowd's reaction could have been part of it, but the new record just seems to be missing something. that's somewhat off topic, but felt it needed to be said.

anyway, it was just weird to see a band i've been listening to for a while, and been really really into for a while, and then when i see them, i don't feel connected to them at all.

Matt and Kim definitely have that. They're just genuinely having fun, so even if you roll your eyes and dislike their music, you can't really hate them.

Hello! I am Philip Kelleman, President of the Harvest of Hope Foundation. I would like to thank "Against Me" for holding their second benefit to raise funds to help migrant farmworkers and their families. In 1997, thanks to an inheritance from my grandmother, in her honor, I established Harvest of Hope to provide emergency and educational aid to those who work our nation's fields to bring us our fruits, vegetables and other foods. Migrant farmworkers are extremely hard-working yet often earn low wages, have difficulty finding adequate housing and safe transportation, and suffer from medical problems. There is limited and often no help available, and as result, Harvest of Hope has distributed more than $573,000 in aid.

The band members of "Against Me" liked the fact that the web-site for the Harvest of Hope Foundation at

On behalf of Harvest of Hope, I am very appreciative that they have agreed to perform another benefit to aid migrant farmworkers. The August 21st benefit in Gainesville, Florida was sold out and raised close to $4,000 for Harvest of Hope. Concert goes were in general very pleased that the band selected migrant farmworkers as their benefit.
