The second-degree murder case of famed producer Phil Spector has ended in a mistrial. The case, first brought in September of 2004, concerned the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. On February 3, 2003 the actress was found shot in the face at Spector's home in Alhambra, near Los Angeles.
The Bronx-born Spector, renound for his "Wall of Sound" production style, was behind such famed 60s singles as The Righteous Brothers' You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling and Ike and Tina Turner's River Deep, Mountain High. Among his production credits is the Beatles' Let It Be. He famously pulled a gun on the Ramones during the recording of 1979's End Of The Century. You can see more about the case here. I bet Phil's favourite Alkaline Trio album is Good Mourning. It's very Wall of Sound uh... sounding.

Judging by his behavior during the trial it's hard to think Spector took it that seriously. It doesn't mean he's guilty but it does sort of show how strangely detached he's become from reality. A murder trial is a serious deal no matter what. 2+ Replies

i'm tired of the mainstream media devoting all this attention to celebrity cases while much more significant stories like that of the Jena Six are virtually nowhere to be found on the news channels 5+ Replies

The Crystals were always my favorite example of Spector's "Wall of Sowned." 1+ Reply

I just heard an interview with a guy who wrote a biography of him- he's had a crazy life.

If McCoy were prosecuting this case, he'd want a new trial, but then Adam or Arthur would convince him it wasn't worth it. Then there'd be some quip about justice not being served, and that's the way the cards fall or something. 1+ Reply

what the fuck is wrong with California jurors? as opinionated as they make themselves out to be, cant they agree on any verdict? if i want to get away with something, im gonna go to california. thats the idea us outsiders get when we see a big trial like this. and another thing..there was a guy arrested here in alabama for beating a dog and setting it on fire. he was caught by the U.S. Marshalls. check the story here. i bet dollars to dimes that he'll get a tougher sentence than Vick, who did (or is responsible for it anyway) way worse things to dozens of dogs including electrocution, hanging, beating, and drowning, amongst others i'm sure. celebrities fucking make me sick. and while i'm on the rant, why do so many judges and courthouses try to put up the ten commandments? i'd rather s show rest of comment 3+ Replies

also pulled a gun on leonard cohen during the recording of death of a ladies man. then hired an armed guard to keep him out of the studio so he wouldn't have any more imput into the finishing of the album. shit like that made it hard to believe he was innocent, though i didn't follow the trial/evidence too closely, so my opinion isn't really worth much.

This women was shot through the teeth...if it was suicide the gun would have been in her mouth....and how is this dude straight anyways? He looks like a flailing half-man to me.

'End Of The Century' is my least favorite Ramones record, mostly due to the production/sound. Spector may have been the go to guy in the '70's and '80's, but his technique and 'Wall of Sound' is outdated and obsolete IMO. He's nothing short of a hasbeen and washed up crazy man now. 1+ Reply
