Asian Man to reissue The Lawrence Arms and The Broadways on vinyl

Asian Man Records have informed the record-buying public that they plan on releasing all three of their Lawrence Arms albums on vinyl. Titles the band has released on Asian Man include their first two albums, A Guided Tour of Chicago and Ghost Stories, as well as 2005's Cocktails and Dreams. The records will all see the light of day by April, 2008.

In related news, the label also has plans to issue The Broadways' 2001 effort Broken Van on vinyl.

I wish they would get Broken Van on CD in stock. I've been checking for months now.

Oh well now I just checked again and its not even listed under their catalog. Whateve AMR.

yes. i once read brendan mentioning that he wishes guided tour and ghost stories had been recorded under a different band name, because he likes the records but doesn't exactly look at them as lawrence arms records. i think that's a decent way to go into them.

yes, but be warned, it's vastly different from their later works. nevertheless, it's a real good listen, and only $8.

guided tour is worth picking up for a few songs. the production quality is pretty sub-par and chris hasn't really hit his stride yet but you can see the potential in the songs. "Detention" and "North Side.." are two of the Arms greatest songs

I don't know how popular this opinion may be but I don't think A Guided Tour of Chicago and Ghost Stories are all that good. They have some good songs but overall they just aren't album that I really care enough go back to listen to all the way through on a regular basis.

I know what you mean. My first TLA CD was The Greatest Story Ever Told. I then purchased A Guided Tour a couple days later. It surprised me how different it was. I already had a taste for that kind of music anyway, so even though it didn't sound anything like the newer stuff I still liked it a lot.

broken star for sure... one of my favorite records as well... i've had broken van for about six years and it still hasn't really sunk in... good songs and everything, but as it's a compilation, it doesn't all seem to flow very well...

i remember a few years ago, when asian man would run that special where i got a copy of everything they in stock on vinyl for like $40... i got tuesday, broadways, mu330, polysics... like 30 records for $40...

as much as i loved getting that deal, i'm glad the collectors have turned the vinyl market around in the last few years... and i'm glad to see some great records finally seeing vinyl release...

hey mike, if yr reading this... single file? clear orange maybe? slapstick on green and cream swirl? just a couple suggestions...

1) The best song on Broken Star is "Nautical Mile".
2) The best song on Broken Van is a tie between "Natural Disaster" and "Under My Belt".
3) The best Brendan song is "Broadway and Briar".
4) Kurt Cobain would agree that I'm right.

well, considering that I put both "Nautical Mile" and "Natural Disaster" (two Chris songs) as well as "Under My Belt" (Dan Song) as top songs on either Broken Star or Van, I think that these rank up as their best songs...I suppose I'll throw in "Fuck You Larry Koesche..." as another one of Dan's best songs and "One Man Board of Directors" as my second pick for Brendan's best. Fuck, I'm gonna have to include "Kitchen Floor" as well as "Restless" as two other Chris songs...let's face it, though his input was limited, he had some of the best Broadways songs.
