Lance Hahn of J Church in the hospital

Sources are reporting that pop-punk veteran Lance Hahn is in the hospital again due to complications with his kidney dialysis. According to the reports, he is currently in the intensive care unit due to a serious infection.

Just three months ago No Idea, Vinehell, Tic Tac Totally, and Cat Food Money Records cooperatively released an album of J Church and Cringer covers to help Lance pay medical bills. Fans and well-wishers can also donate via a PayPal account through the website of Austin's Vulcan Video.

Hahn is the creative force behind J Church, the beloved and prolific San Francisco pop-punk band which formed fifteen years ago following the break up of Bay Area heroes, Cringer.

All of us at Punknews.org wish Lance the best for a swift recovery.

There's a lot of people in the hospital with serious illnesses - should we stop posting all news because of it? The fucking site didn't post it - regardless of who may have leaked it, I'm sure SLM fans are dying to hear this. This happened to be the most recent topic when I decided to post it.

This site doesn't post leaks as news!!! They post news on bands who are trying to make a living, not news on some dickhead who decided to leak songs thus fucking the aforementioned bands over! If the band themselves had posted the tracks it probably would've posted! Why is that so hard for you to comprehend?

Says the anti-flag fan. Face it, you like boring warped tour type shit, hell I used to like that stuff too, but then my tastes matured. I enoy SLM live, but their first CD was nothing but rehashed Keasby Nights and their 2nd was, well 'Keasby Nights', so you have no room to talk about repetitiveness in music!

also, i hardly consider SLM's first CD to be a rehash of keasby - i personally think it was a step forward from keasby, with a lot more musical ability being showcased.

just realised why you think i like anti-flag - for some reason they've been added to my "favoite bands" on here. probably because i posted a few times in one of their news articles about how they're a bunch of hypocrites.

What THAT has to do with Lance being seriously ill is beyond me. Lance is criminally underrated as a musician. Cringer was great and J. Church are still releasing solid albums after all these years.

I would start with Nostalgic for Nothing. It's a collection of 7"s and comp. tracks and a good starting point. From there Arbor Vitae and Prophylaxis are solid.
Personally, Society is a Carnivorous Flower and the Horror of LIfe have been on heavy rotation.

i just used the submit news feature to let you guys know about a typo in the article. if someone from punknews reads this, can you reply back and let me know if that's the best method or if i should just leave a comment or drop an e-mail or whatever?

as far as lance is concerned, i hope he comes out of this and quick. we're talking about one of the most admirable guys in punk rock. not only has he been doing this forever (and doing it well) but i've always thought his approach to records (releasing tons of 7 inches on tons of different labels) was awesome and a great way to support the scene. furthermore, as someone less than comfortable with their own vocals, that lance has continued singing rather than just falling back on guitar, despite years of comments regarding his (perceived) lack of vocal talent, is also way cool.

oh, and also, even though the thousands of causes and difficulty in choosing which to support can sometimes retard or even prevent people from donating at all, anyone with the means should definitely pitch in a little cash. the only thing worse than being terribly ill is having to worry about finding the money to pay for (treating) that terrible illness.

good luck with recovery. j church was one of the first bands that got me into punk, alongside rocket from the crypt and others, and is one of the bands which is keeping me a part of the scene to this day. keep strong lance!
