John Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, RFTC) to unveil new band in March

John Reis, the mastermind behind Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Rocket From the Crypt and Swami Records will be releasing his new album on March 25, 2008.

The band is not yet named, but will include Gar Wood (Hot Snakes, Beehive & the Barracudas), Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes, Mule, Delta 72), and Montreal export, Tommy Kitsos (CPC Gangbangs). The recording was done over 4 months in Swami's City Of Refuge studio that replaced their Drag Racist studio, which met its ashy demise in 2003. The group recorded 20 songs of which 13 are scheduled to appear on the album.

Along with the release, the band is promising a healthy touring schedule for 2008

This sounds like it might be awesome, as long as its not called Speedo. That would have seemed like a sort of Reis ego trip, if he named the band after himself.

Also, more news about hot snakes cd/dvd plz.

I've just been getting into Hot Snakes recently; everything I've heard by them is really really good. I actually haven't heard much/any of his other, older bands, though I've read their names plenty of times.

rftc is easily one of my 2 or 3 favorite bands ever but i've never been able to get into any of speedo's other bands (outside of the sultans), hot snakes included.

Don't be foolish. Reis is playing most of the complex riffage in both DLJ and Hot Snakes. As well as singing on a couple songs from each band's catalog.

I'm not saying Reis doesn't do shit, but Froberg's presence, especially in songwriting, tends to give off a more serious jagged tone than the "rock and roll fuck yeah!" feeling a casual RTFC fan would be expecting.

Well yeah, it was for a movie that never got made. I wasn't expecting anything special, but I was trying to make a point that it was a Reis written record and that it shares a lot with Hot Snakes'/Drive Like Jehu's sound. Thus Reis was the main writing force behind those bands.

John Reis and Jason Kourkounis wrote most of the first Hot Snakes album before Froberg was even in the picture.

Plus if you listen to the demo in the RFTC thread, it's got a serious Hot Snakes feel to it. No doubt due to 3/4ths of the Hot Snakes in this band.

Even though I'm grateful that John Reis is still making new music, I just wish they got Rick to do vocals.
