Vinnie Caruana / Set Your Goals to do Movielife set at Bamboozle

While the rumours of a reunion from The Movielife failed to pan out, former Movielife frontman Vinnie Caruana has offered up a bit of a consolation for fans of the late hardcore band.

Vinnie will be teaming up with the members of Set Your Goals to deliver a full set of Movielife songs and Vinnie promises that the band will be taking fan requests to assemble the set list.

The entire shindig is set to take place during a few stops on Bamboozle. The Movielife formed in 1997 and split up in fall of 2003. We spoke to Vinnie about the band way back in April of 2003. You can find that interview here.

That's kind of strange, but if I go to the boozle I would definitley check it out, I'd like to hear Kelly Song and Jamestown.

as much as I would love to see The Movielife live I just don't enjoy big concert settings like Bamboozle or Warped Tour
I could see this being really cool though as long as the high pitched singer from Set Your Goals doesn't touch a microphone

They are pop-punk hardcore. Listen to their first cd. Its a lot more raw then forty hour train to penn.

Im going to get completly blasted for saying this but this is a fine example of how a "reunion" should go down.

1. It was completly fandriven, loads of people has requested it over the years.
2. It seems like Vinnie wanted to do it, but other members didnt, so to get a band like set your goals to do it is a great match because theyve always shown their entusiasm for the movielife in interviews etc.

Obviously, the best way for a reunion to go down is like the texas is the reason reunion, quietly book a show, add more if theres a demand and then just leave it to be, but this is a great way to give people what they want.

Obviously i dont have the same standpoint as many of you guys due to me living in Europe, having witnessed bunches and bunches of halfassed, unrehearsed, "guns for hire", "quick scam blagging a trip to europe"-reuni

JeremyS brings up a good point, this would be cool as long as it's Vinnie and SYG minus the two singers, I mean like maybe maybe they come out and do one song or something, but if all three of them do vocals for the entire set that would be....stupid.

Also are they doing this with the rest of the Movielife's consent? Is it like "I don't want to do a reunion, but I could care less what you do" ?

if the rest of the movielife really didn't want any reunion to happen I would feel wierd being one of the SYG guys

I dont think anyone who were in the band are doing anything even remotely related to what the movielife did so its safe to say that theyve moved on. And i think set your goals recently lost a guitarist so one of the singers will probably play.

his could be kind of cool to happen upon, but it's dumb that they're making big announcements about it. I can understand that they guy is probably proud of his songs and wants to keep playing them but there's no need to make a big hairy deal out of it.

this is fucking weak, no disrespect to SYG but the movielife are legends, and vinnie should just wait till brandon (nightmare of you) gets over his larger than life ego.
this is such a tease for a big movielife fan like me

In 8th grade I saw The Reunion Show, The Movielife, and Midtown after Christmas. Worst show ever mainly because of The Movielife. They were TERRIBLE.

That's because you like terrible music. Midtown were infinitely better which isn't saying much because of the amount of suck The Movielife were. But I will say the worst part of the night was when Midtown said they weren't playing half of their really good EP songs live anymore. I stopped paying attention to Midtown after that.

are you retarded or did you CHOOSE to omit their best song possibe, Walking on Glass. That song is pretty much better than everything on their final cd.

I'll be honest...I've only heard about half their last one and from what I've heard, its decent. the E flat tuning gives a fuller sound. 'walking on glass' is a catchy song but i really wish we could just delete '...has a gambling problem' from their discography.

"...has a gambling problem" and its 5 songs are better than the entire cd of "40 Hour Train" pretty much by a landslide. 40 Hour train was Vinny writing songs that would be fine on a mediocre I Am the Avalanche album, but were a strong drop off from all of "This Time Next Year" and "Has a Gambling Problem", anyone really familiar with their work who was a fan of the band at the top of their game would more than likely agree.

And the stuff prior to This Time Next Year is pretty weak at best.

So, yea, I let people have opinions, but yours is clearly wrong here.

Like I said, I probably only heard half(if that) of 40 hour and that was years ago. so maybe it really isn't that great. But opinions are opinions. 'has a gambling problem' not only contained 5 disposable pop songs, it signaled a wrong turn for the band that, in my opinion, led to their demise. I do like 'walking on glass', but the fact that it was the follow up to a pretty good album like TTNY makes it that much worse.
so yea, I think you are wrong.

Actually, if you're going to peg people for not knowing anything about the Movielife, you'd know that the band didn't like "Has a Gambing Problem," and that's why the only thing you ever heard off of it was "Walking on Glass." They were bullied into writing a pop punk album when the joined Drive Thru and regretted it after it was realeased.

"Forty Hour Train Back to Penn" is one of the best albums of this decade, and if you actually appreciated good music you'd know that and "This Time Next Year" are by far their best work, even if it doesn't sound like it's on par With Fall Out Boy and BoYs LiKe GiRlS!1212

Saw the Movielife at the '03 Hellfest. The bassist lost his strap mid way through some song but kept playing in a weird stance. That was pretty awesome.

I love the IATA album, plus their awesome live. NOY album was also pretty good.
