In what is probably an attempt to prove that they are "with it" and "totally not squares," the enterprising journalists at Fox Chicago have assembled an unintentionally humorous look at the "emo backlash."
The piece mainly focuses on how the "emo kids" are being picked on for their beliefs. You can check out the video here. Television (125 comments)

Have you ever given an emo kid beef stew? They just tend to cry about it........

I love how they go straight from vilifying "emo" to defending it.
CBSrocksteady (January 28, 2008)
I would hardly say there is any ongoing emo backlash at this moment.
CBSrocksteady (January 28, 2008)
lol and why is this even up here? this is definately milking some discussion.

All of these articles about emo, and none of them even got the genre right. 1+ Reply

my favorite part was the guy's "play on words" at the end. he took the word emo and "cleverly" inserted it into the word that it's short for. the way he says it is hilarious too.

watching this video is like having a relative buy you a yo-yo for your birthday and try to convince you it's this "really cool new stunt toy, it's all the rage nowadays!"

Its irritating that these kids are representing "any" style of music. He sounds like he's singing through his nose while taking a shit. 1+ Reply

Pretty funny. Oh hey Mark Saxenmeyer, Green Day is neither 'emo' nor are they from Chicago. Good guess though

I live in Chicago and I feel like I have my finger pretty close to the pulse of he music community and I have never, ever heard of this band. Who the fuck likes that kind of thing? I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything less edgy, distinct or interesting. 2+ Replies

The singer of that band's name is Dave. He lives down the street from me. I smashed a pumpkin in his driveway when we were in 6th grade and his mom called my parents. I got grounded for like a week. 3+ Replies

Do you guys get a really old UK show called The Day Today in the states? This could have been a piece from that.

Old news reports about punk rock and more recent stories about hardcore and shit like FSU always go straight to the violent actions of the kids involved. I've never seen a youth culture story that claimed the kids were getting beaten up by cooler kids. Emo can't catch a break, the little wusses.
ihateallofyou (January 29, 2008)
God damn that sucked. When I see news stories about topics on which I am informed it teaches me not to trust the news when they report on subjects I know nothing about.
I read these comments, and see people talking about what emo really is/was and kinda feel like its history lesson time. Anyone interested should read http://www.fourfa.com/ - this dude posted a short history, a longer history with descriptions of subgenres (he calls Sunny Day a phase four emo band, Texas is the Reason is phase five) and an overview of the equipment used during the different phases. He even has links to sound clips and photos. This is the most accurate writing I have ever read on this subject, and feel most everyone here would benefit from giving it a look, especially if you are gonna call Sunny Day, Elliot, or Texas is show rest of comment

"If you're over 25 years old, chances are you've never heard of it." more like if you're over 25 years old and like emo you probably are into Still Life, Rites of Spring and other authentic stuff.

Also, how come that band consists of "college students" but their house is so ridiculously nice? I'm a college student, and I have to take showers in the dark because the light bulb went. I want a musical conservatory! 1+ Reply
