Media: Set Your Goals: “Message In A Bottle”

San Francisco's Set Your Goals have posted a cover of The Police's "Message In A Bottle" online. You can check it out over at MySpace. The song was recorded last year with Joe Clements at Compound Recordings in Santa Cruz.

The Eulogy act is currently working on new songs for the followup to Mutiny!. In the meantime they'll play a number of shows on the Gallows / Fucked Up tour of the UK. We posted those dates previously.

the cover by Watashi Wa on the Militia Group Police Tribute album was so much better. not better than the Police, better than Set Your Goals.

I have a largely irrational hatred for "Message In A Bottle" (the original one). I can't fucking stand that song and each time I hear it I find something new to hate about it.

I was standing in line at the bank yesterday, and they kept playing this like half-time lounge jazz version of it over and over and all I could think was "How did they manage to make this song WORSE?"

I hate that the Police are always mentioned in passing with punk, even though it's the most inoffensive form of tinkling restaurant music.

I think it's the last verse that really gets to me. It's like a piss-poor Twilight Zone twist or something... I just want to start yelling at my radio:

And regarding The Police: If the drummer is the best thing your band has going for it, you probably shouldn't be making music.

Set Your Goals is one of my favorite bands of the moment.
That said, this cover blows. Hard.
Maybe if they'd put up the fucking echoes video they've been promising I could forget about this shitty cover.
