I interviewed the president of Harvest of Hope, Phil, on my radio show and believe me, all the money they get goes straight to helping migrant farm workers, some of whose stories will break your heart in half. Go check out their organization before you immediately post a comment like that.

So, does writing great songs and playing amazing shows have no relevance?

I definitely see why you'd say that, but something about Double Plaidinum sticks with me I fucking love it. I think that the great songs are incredible on that record.

It's my favorite. It's not their best, but I don't think they really have a worst. For me, Double Plaidinum has always been the perfect transition record from old Lagwagon to new. The vocals are just crazy and every song is great. What isn't to love.

Resolve, but Feelings is second.

Hoss might be the most fun....Trashed would be the one that I would say is my favorite if I had to anwser super fst, but Feelings really might be my favorite.

I might be the only one that didn't really like Resolve all that much.

Ummm, probably because it's sarcastic, like most of their early songs. "Those Anarcho Punx" is a vicious zinger against, well, anarcho punx. Anyone who says different wasn't really paying attention.

Tom Gabel has always been picking apart the music industry - now he's just doing it on a much bigger scale.

So, in your opinion, does the sarcasm in the song make it about silly divisions in the left and about how much time is wasted defining instead of working towards change? That is kind of what I get from it anyways.

I think, especially in the second verse, it's lambasting people who draw arbitrary lines because life is easier to define when there's an us vs. them mentality. I think it's about extremism and how it can both be silly and scary and wrong in the same way as what it's reacting to. I think it's about people who stay deliberately underground for no other reason than to "reach an obscure kind of perfection." I think it's mostly about how ridiculous punks can be.

Call me dense, but the only sarcasm I see is directed at the "spineless liberal" in the song.

If he's lampooning anarchists, he's failed miserably. There's no trace of irony on those kids' faces.

I mean, you have read the lyrics, right? They're so extreme that I have to believe that they can't be anything but satire directed at people who actually think like that. (i.e. suburban high school kids and loudmouth gutter punks who would rather beg for change than make change happen.)

If the audience (the WHOLE audience, if that video is any indication) isn't in on the joke, that to me smacks of a bad comedian. Either that, or Gabel's a genius, and I don't think anyone would ever credit him at being a master of words.

I keep looking at the lyrics (yeah, I've got the disc) and the only people satirized are the liberals here. The lines "You believe in authority, I believe in myself" don't sound extreme or anything close to parody. Or what about "You watched in awe at the red, white, and blue on the fourth of july. While those fireworks were exploding, I was burning that fucker and stringing my black flag high"? That's completely anarchist.

The only joke here is that Gabel, having completely renounced his former scene, is still singing this song.

No, I'll admit that last bit was a cheap shot, but I was just trying to make a point. I'm really no Against Me purist. But I think the guy above me's explanation that AM! is lampooning anarchists in that song is so far off the mark.

i disagree, i think that the idea of anarchy is so far removed from being something even remotely viable that the song does satirize it. You can't blame the audience for not getting it, especially if they are like 14 year old kids who started listening to AM! with New Wave. And to call them hypocrites is a bit extreme. I think the only thing that they are REALLY guilty of is inadvertently becoming popular and then riding it. I don't think that while they wrote Disco Before the Breakdown and As the Eternal Cowboy, they ever anticipated something of this magnitude, but now they're huge, and they're still AM!, i've seen them many times in the before and the after, and little has changed as far as attitudes, the only thing that changed is the polish on the records...there's more now.

yes. stop drinking 'a lot' of beer if you really want to slim down, even light beers have like 300 calories each. Also, find other ways to exercise, running that much isn't good for your legs, or your body. Try running 3 times a week, and doing something else a couple times a week when you arent running. and just google ab work outs, im sure you will find tons of other things to do besides crunchs, which are not very effective.
