Exclusive Videos: The Gaslight Anthem (interview/performance) Part 1

We recently spoke with New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem on the first date of their current headlining tour. The first installment features discussion on the band's well-received debut LP, Sink or Swim, and their impressions on it's unexpected success.

The clip also features a live track from the night's performance, the title track from their new EP, Señor and the Queen. Check back next week for next installment.

If punk is supposed to be about rebellion and independence, individuality, making educated/informed decisions instead of going with the mainstream, and free expression, then why does everyone have to like the same bands, wear the same black t shirts and support the same philosophies you do.

It reminds me of Henry Ford suggesting his customers could have their car in whatever color they wanted, so long as they wanted black.

That may have been one of the most coherent interviews I've heard you do, sickboi, so congrats to that.

During the concert footage I appreciated the prominence of Gratuitous Finger Pointer. Also Sing in the Mic Boy had issues with getting too close to Brian. He almost put his arm around him, then got too self-conscious. "I'm so not gay, brah."

I think the fact that Chris is friends with the band helps. It's hard walking into a situation where you don't know the band at all and asking them a bunch of personal questions. Since Chris did like two weeks on the road with Gaslight Anthem, I think it helped.

Actually,it is a little more difficult to interview a band you are close to. I worried it was a conflict of of interests, but since we hadn't interviewed them yet it seemed ok.

The only reason it went so smooth was because it was 3am the morning of daylight savings time (so actually 4am) and Ghost was in a hurry to watch "There Will Be Blood".

Needs more fingerpointing.
That one guy in the front who kept trying to step on the stage made me laugh for some reason. Specifically when some other person grabbed him to pull him back to reality.

Also: love this band.

What a great fucking show they put on. It's been less than a week and I already can't wait until the next time they get around here. What does everyone like/dislike about the EP so far?

I like all 4 songs, but the title track remains my favorite.

Chris/Steve/anybody who was there: What was the 2nd song they played at their soundcheck?

Let's face the facts here. They are going to keep putting out fantastic albums. But how much are we going to miss the days when we could see them and hear almost all of Sink or Swim?

Oh and currently 'blue jeans and white t-shirts' that shit gives me chills, from the way the guitar changes at the part when he says 'We sing with our heroes 33rpm' that whole part is fucking amazing. I'm totally infatuated with the whole damn thing, I also really dig 'wherefore art...'

These are some of the nicest most respectful guys, and you can tell they really appreciate what is happening to them. When I saw them a few weeks back I kept trying to talk to Brian(singer) but something would come up for one reason or another and he'd be like "I'll come find you, promise". This happened 3 or 4 times throughout the night. When the time to leave cameI was saying by to people, and about to head out when from behind me "it's not time to leave yet I promised I would talk to you". We chatted for a bit and were on our way, but I still think that speaks volumes about the guy. I talked to the other guys throughout the night as well and they all have the same vibe. Super nice and really stoked that you're stoked to see them. If you haven't gotten to see them live yet, make the effort to do so, you won't be let down.

Definately. I've talked to them at a couple shows and they were as down-to-earth appreciative as you can imagine. They seem about as blown away by their sucess as we are about their music.

I absolutely love this band. I've never in recent memory been more excited for a band, or just blown away by the music a band creates like Gaslight does.

Man-crush? At the very least, yes.

Cream in the pants? Every listen.

Also... when was the last time a band totally blew away expectations after putting out a legendary album like "Swim or Swim" with an absolutely amazing EP? Holy shizz.
